The Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for an Access Transmission Planning Lead to provide technical leadership across the planning and design of Optus’ next‑generation regional transport network.

This role is accountable for the strategic planning and rollout of Cell Site Routers (CSR) and plays a critical role in the Regional IP Modernisation program, working closely with Access Aggregator and Core Transport teams to ensure seamless end‑to‑end integration.

 

 

What You’ll Do

  • Provide technical leadership across regional IP transport planning and design, including Carrier Ethernet (CE) and next‑generation architectures
  • Lead planning and design for CSR rollout strategies, ensuring alignment with agreed design guidelines and resiliency objectives
  • Represent Access Transmission in architecture reviews, solution onboarding workshops and program forums
  • Define and drive resiliency uplift plans across regional microwave clusters, including migration to fibre or third‑party leased solutions where required
  • Develop enhancement plans to improve resiliency across the deployed Metro NGCE network
  • Act as a senior escalation point for operational teams, supporting fault resolution and performance optimisation
  • Collaborate closely with engineering, deployment, operations, vendors and contractors to ensure timely and successful delivery of network initiatives
  • Independently manage medium to large‑scale projects with minimal supervision

 

 

What You’ll Bring

  • Tertiary qualification in Electrical or Telecommunications Engineering
  • Extensive experience in telecommunications, ideally in network planning, design or provisioning roles
  • Deep expertise in IP routing and switching technologies, including MPLS, IS‑IS and OSPF
  • Strong knowledge of Carrier Ethernet, microwave and fibre transmission technologies
  • Experience delivering transmission networks for large telecommunications operators
  • Ability to document network designs, build requirements and configurations with precision
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to balance technical and commercial trade‑offs
  • Proven ability to work autonomously while collaborating effectively with cross‑functional stakeholders
