The opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled Associate Director to lead systems management, technology, processes, and people within the Digital Portfolio at Optus. You will act as the main point of contact for service and system management across multiple platforms, maintenance, and in-life capacity of critical applications. This role directly supports revenue-generating functions for Optus and its affiliates.

In collaboration with Agile teams, you will play a key role in preparing operations production support models and ensuring alignment with IT Operations SLAs. The position requires managing a diverse team, including full-time and vendor staff both onshore and offshore, to deliver 24/7 operational support.


Your day to day will consist of...

  • Service Delivery: Lead the delivery of quality outcomes in line with Optus policies and procedures, driving continuous improvement, and implementing SLO/SLI and automation across applications.
  • Team Leadership: Manage a team of full-time and vendor staff to ensure effective support for a portfolio of over 100 digital applications.
  • Financial Management: Oversee financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Vendor Management: Foster valuable partnerships with vendors, ensuring they deliver optimal value within the portfolio.
  • Project & Business Engagement: Work closely with delivery teams to ensure on-time, budget-compliant solutions. Engage regularly with key business units across domains and Agile squads.
  • Compliance: Ensure full adherence to Optus policies and procedures by all team members, including vendors.


What makes you perfect for the role?

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in a senior IT management role, ideally in a competitive IT environment.
  • Proven track record managing Telecoms Ordering and/or Billing systems.
  • Experience leading a mixed team of internal and outsourced resources.
  • Strong vendor management and negotiation skills.
  • Solid knowledge of data warehousing, monitoring tools (e.g., Dynatrace, HP BPM), and ITIL v3 Foundations.
  • Proficiency in Unix, Windows Operating Systems, and enterprise-scale 24/7 database technologies.
  • Understanding of security protocols (e.g., SHA2, SSL, TLS) and cloud technologies, especially AWS.
  • Familiarity with DevOps frameworks and enterprise development methodologies (SCRUM, Agile, Waterfall).
