Network Engineer - VSAT - 12 month Fixed Term Contract

In this exciting role, you will play a key part of the Satellite Customer team which has responsibilities to monitor, maintain and operate all end-to-end components of Optus’ Satellite network and various components associated with International Satellite services maintained and operated by Optus Satellite.


Based at the Belrose Earth Station facility with responsibilities extending to the Lockridge and Wellington Earth Stations (Gateway Teleport), you will perform all facets of VSAT fault finding including RF systems, TCP/IP & computer monitoring systems. You will also be involved in training for Optus Wholesalers and Contractors to support the operations of VSAT products.


Importantly, you will be part of a 5-day roster or 7am to 8pm operation within the Satellite Operations Centre (SOC) which forms part of the Satellite Customer Team and also provide after-hours support to the SOC when required.


Your background ...


  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering, telecommunications, electronics, computer or network engineering;
  • Australian citizenship with a min of 3 years’ experience in the Telecommunications industry with Network management experience;
  • Experience within the Broadcast and VSAT industry, preferably in an Operational Control environment;
  • A proven understanding of Satellite systems in both VSAT, Broadcast, IP and general Radio Frequency principles;
  • Excellent communication and social skills - you are all round top teammate;  
  • Ability to exercise independent and effective judgement in the application of standard operating procedures;
  • Solid written communications skills and ability to write process/procedures and work instructions;
  • Ability to perform as an integral part of a cohesive, highly skilled team;
  • Highly motivated and able to work independently under minimum supervision;
  • Ability to collaborate, as required, with other members of the Satellite Customer team, Satellite Control, Sales and Marketing; &
  • A firm understanding and dedication to Optus and Industry WHS practices and procedures.
