Solution Architect (Ensyst, an Optus Company)

The purpose of this role is to provide a high level of business and technical consultancy in all areas of cloud and data centre technology to customer accounts. 

The Solution Architect exhibits in-depth technology and business knowledge across a range of industry segments and technology specialties within the cloud and data centre space to deliver solutions to Ensyst customers.

A strong background in the areas of telecommunications, information technology, applications and implementation/migration challenges across a range of industries and markets is required as you’ll be required to develop innovative / complex cloud and data centre road maps, articulating the plan and influencing senior management both externally and internally.

The role is responsible for providing direction and leadership to technical teams, potentially drawing on expertise from the broader Ensyst team when targeting major opportunities and developing associated proposals. This will include being responsible for supporting a complex major FSI account whose commercial needs require sophisticated, innovative and integrated business solutions.

You’ll be the overall solution owner for key streams of a major engagement, covering ongoing relationship and major offer stages:

  • Ongoing relationship: providing professional design and consultancy services to develop innovative ‘whole-of-business’ relationships on an ongoing basis, to address customer business requirements through technology, application and services
  • Offers stages: providing major solution offers (bids), covering technology and commercial ownership, and is instrumental in defining the winning business-to-technology value proposition.

The role will be extensively customer facing and requires a strong rapport with the customer (extensive experience presenting to the C-level executive is crucial) and contribution to proposal authoring and innovative thinking.

The position provides a key link between the sales process, product capability owners, and implementation teams.

Skills and Experience;

You possess strong verbal, written, documentation and design skills, coupled with presentation and effective listening skills. You pride yourself on being proactive in the establishment of professional relationships at relevant levels within the customer structured and bring with you strong negotiation skills, advanced consulting and selling skills covering strategic positioning and enterprise-wide solutions-based selling at C – level. Additionally, you understand financial principles and engage in financial return discussions with customers, including the ability to produce costing models. Furthermore, our ideal candidate will also have the following;

  • Substantial experience and a proven track record in consulting and designing complex solutions in specialist area of Cloud & Data Centre solutions
  • Experience with Customer Experience related business requirements and providing complex Cloud & Data Centre solutions to support improved customer outcomes, reduced vulnerabilities and increased efficiencies
  • Experience crafting consulting, professional services and managed Cloud & Data Centre services proposals
  • Substantial working experience in the Communications & Information Technology industries providing technical and consulting support
  • Degree qualified in an engineering discipline (either Telecommunications or Information Technology at Certificate IV level and/or Multiple Tertiary qualifications (Engineering/Science/Finance) and/or Post Graduate qualifications (MBA, Management Diploma) will be highly regarded
  • Exposure to enterprise service management and architecture methodologies and frameworks such as ITIL and TOGAF
  • Broad-based ICT/Telecommunications systems design background with detailed understanding of enterprise-wide system architecture and service management methodologies          
  • Understanding of industry trends and directions (local and international)              
  • Affiliations to industry bodies such as IEEE, ACS or ATUG
  • Relevant vendor and industry certifications. E.g. Microsoft Azure, AWS, VMWare, Pure Storage, Dell EMC, NetApp, etc
  • Ability to recognise and analyse the customer’s business needs and translate them into relevant cloud and data centre solutions and to articulate the value proposition to the customer
  • Understand the role of telecommunications support tools in the areas of Business and Operational Support
  • Experience in the development of long-term business relationships and developing strategic sales plans are essential             
  • Strong thought leadership and collaboration skills
  • Microsoft, Amazon, Google, Storage platforms such as Pure/Nimble accreditation (desirable)
  • Advanced knowledge of contract, risk and commercial risks.
