Based in Canberra, ACT, the Satcom Network Engineer will work as part of a small technical and operational team to support ADF Wideband and Narrowband operations on a 24/7 shift roster. Responsibilities include tier 1 management of the Australian Defence Satellite Communications Capability (ADSCC), maintaining a record log of interactions, and liaising with key stakeholders for fault escalation and service assurance activities. An Australian Government Security Clearance at a minimum NV1 is required.

Your day in the life of a ADFSOC Satcom Network Engineer at Optus

  • Operate Defence Wideband and Narrowband Satellite Communication Ground Systems
  • Provide configuration management and detailed reporting
  • Provision and commission network elements and services
  • Monitor Defence Satellite Communications Network Infrastructure
  • Perform initial fault analysis and remedial action
  • Operate the Defence Payload Segment (DPS)
  • Liaise with Optus, Defence, and other key collaborators
  • Log interactions accurately and timely
  • Escalate issues and faults to key collaborators
  • Adhere to Defence and local area procedures and policies

Your skills to pay the bills

  • Proven experience in telecommunications systems
  • Understanding of Digital Communication Techniques, satellite transmission, microwave and RF principles, modulation and inter-modulation, network connectivity, and antenna principles
  • Minimum Secret (NV1) Security Clearance
  • Knowledge of computer OS (Unix and MS) and network skills
  • Crisis Management and Business Recovery skills
  • High level of literacy in Database, Word Processing, and Spreadsheet applications
  • Understanding of ITIL practices
