The Cloud Technical Lead works within the Cloud and Infra Engineering team, collaborating closely with Network teams to ensure aligned network designs, strategic development, and effective operational, risk, and governance support across the cloud domain. The role combines deep multi-technology technical expertise with leadership and strategic thinking to design, implement, and manage resilient network solutions that support organisational objectives. This position reports to the Associate Director of Cloud & Infra Engineering.
Your day to day will consist of
- Contribute to long-term cloud network strategies aligned with organisational goals, growth plans, and technology roadmaps.
- Develop and enforce network policies, standards, and design frameworks to ensure regulatory compliance and best practices across platforms.
- Provide architectural leadership, guide platform owners through major projects, support knowledge transfer, and ensure delivery against timelines.
- Lead the design, implementation, and evolution of scalable, high-availability network infrastructure and best-of-breed cloud networking solutions.
- Act as a liaison between technical teams, management, and customers, presenting complex technical concepts, plans, and progress clearly.
- Contribute to security strategy, participate in security workshops, identify risks, and guide implementation of network security controls.
- Evaluate and collaborate with vendors on emerging technologies to enhance networking capabilities and services.
- Provide expert troubleshooting guidance, maintain accurate architecture documentation, and participate in Network Architecture Review Boards through to final approval.
What makes you perfect for the role
- Over 10 years’ experience as a professional engineer in the telecommunications industry, including deep expertise in carrier-grade mobile, fixed, data networks, and 7+ years in cloud technologies, platforms, and protocols.
- Proven ability to translate strategy into practical, cost‑effective solutions by applying the right mix of technologies while managing risk, regulatory obligations, and market trends.
- Strong background in carrier network design, product development, new technology introduction, and large-scale rollouts, including Fixed–Mobile Convergence (FMC).
- Highly motivated leader who drives cross‑team collaboration & resolves complex business and technical issues.
- Deep hands‑on expertise across OpenStack, containerised and virtualised cloud, Kubernetes, Docker Swarm, microservices, NFV, orchestration, and IaaS/PaaS/SaaS environments, spanning architecture, design, implementation, operations, and security/cybersecurity.
- Strong proficiency in 5G and 4G mobile network architecture and design, large‑scale carrier network environments, product development, customer‑facing designs, and engagement with middle and senior management.
- Extensive experience with IP networking and protocols including OSPF, BGP, TCP/IP, tunnelling (IPSEC, GRE, L2TP, PPTP), NAT/PAT, access control, QoS, and network testing tools and procedures.
- Proven ability to design, implement, and operate complex cloud‑native and telecom network solutions supporting high performance, scalability, and reliability.
