Consumer Digital - Manager, Design Research

As the Manager, Design Research, you will be able to apply your knowledge on hands-on UX research practices and methodologies for integrating user research into product designs and design practices. You will work in partnership with Product Owners and Designers to create engaging and memorable digital experiences for mobile, tablet, online or TV. 

 

You will work with the Research and Design team to identify needs, make recommendations for improvement, drive the planning and execution of related projects and guiding the team in a variety of tasks from troubleshooting and responding to maintaining state-of-the-art lab spaces.

 

Responsibilities

  • Run and manage design research projects to deliver on multiple concurrent projects from concept through completion.
  • Support design discovery for user needs and motivations for projects undertaken using Design Thinking methodologies.
  • Partner with design leaders in creating the design and research strategies to build a culture of insight-driven product design and development.
  • Help the design and research leaders to execute the strategy for keeping stakeholders and teams better informed, synthesizing and sharing research findings to elevate awareness of research across the organization.
  • Monitor team health
  • Maintain research lab operations (e.g. equipment, recruiting and scheduling)
  • Identify potential future areas of opportunity, new programs, and ways to support the team
  • Provide direction and mentorship junior researchers
  • Evangelize the value of design, UX and research value.

 

The ideal candidate should be/have:

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction, Cognitive Science, Experimental Psychology, Information Science, related field / Bachelor's Degree with equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years’ experience as a project/program manager in a product/service design consultancy or (preferred) as part of an in-house product design/UX research team

  • Experience managing research or design teams.

  • Experience integrating user research into product designs and design practices.

  • Experience planning, executing and analyzing qualitative and quantitative research.

  • Knowledge at working with or supporting research/insights function (Qualitative and Quantitative Research Knowledge)

  • Experience in writing project briefs and scopes of work, estimating work effort, and managing resources

  • Proficiency with project management and asset management tools (e.g., JIRA, Asana, Basecamp or Trello, etc)

  • Effective interpersonal, communication and collaboration skills.

  • Powerful written, verbal, and visual communication skills, and demonstrated the ability to use communication skills to problem-solve

  • Excellent organizational, time management, and prioritization skills

  • Self-directed and takes initiative in tackling problems

  • Exceptional team player with experience leading large, complex team structures
