Optus is an Australian telecommunications company, delivering more than 11 million services to our customers every day across mobile, broadband and digital solutions.
Are you an engineer who's passionate about eliminating manual toil and embedding security at scale? At Optus, we're evolving how security is built, deployed, and maintained and we need a Security Platform Engineer - DevSecOps to help lead that shift.
Sitting within our Cyber Security & Risk Operations (CSRO) Platform Engineering team, this role is at the intersection of DevOps engineering and enterprise security. You'll be accountable for replacing manual, click-ops platform management with automated, code-driven delivery pipelines and infrastructure-as-code across our security tool estate.
But this role goes beyond internal tooling. You'll play a key part in shifting security left across Optus engineering, working with development and platform teams to embed security early in the build lifecycle, developing policy-as-code frameworks, reusable security libraries, and pre-approved integration patterns that make it easy for developers to consume security controls within their everyday workflows.
What You’ll Do
- Designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines for automated deployment and configuration of CSRO security platforms
- Building infrastructure-as-code to provision and manage security platform infrastructure across on-prem and cloud environments
- Leading shift-left security integration, developing policy-as-code frameworks and reusable security libraries for developer consumption
- Building API-driven integrations across the CSRO security tool estate to automate data flows, alert routing, and workflow orchestration
- Implementing GitOps workflows to ensure all platform changes are tracked, peer-reviewed, and auditable
- Build AI-driven security gates into CI/CD pipelines, combining static analysis, dependency scanning, secrets detection, and container scanning with AI models that triage and prioritise findings to accelerate secure software delivery
What You Bring
- 3+ years in DevOps, platform engineering, or infrastructure automation roles
- Hands-on CI/CD pipeline and IaC experience (platform provisioning and configuration management)
- Strong scripting skills in Python, Bash, or PowerShell
- Experience with API integration development across enterprise platforms
- Solid understanding of GitOps, version control, and shift-left security practices
- Experience embedding security controls directly into CI/CD pipelines through static analysis, dependency scanning, secrets detection, and container scanning tooling
- Foundational security domain knowledge across areas such as identity, network, or vulnerability management, with experience applying security principles in an engineering context
