As the boundaries of telecommunications, media, internet and information technology disappear and a new global digital marketplace develops, where a startup from Silicon Valley can significantly impact the performance of large telecommunications operators on the other side of the world, any company in this marketplace needs to transform itself and develop a broad strategic map.

Singtel Group’s ambition is to become Asia’s leading multimedia player and the Group Strategy team supports our Group management in achieving this ambition with relevant projects, analyses and recommendations.

 

The focus of this Director, Group Strategy role will be to one of the lead managers within the Group Strategy team in influencing the overall strategic direction of the Singtel Group through relevant projects and research delivered to the Board and the Group CEO as well as the Group Management Committee. The incumbent will be leading the team in driving strategic projects working with line managers and supporting the top management with recommendations. The role also drives the on-going competitive intelligence, conducting analysis of key changes in our business environment and making recommendations on strategic choices across both new digital business as well as core business. The role will be responsible for building a centre of excellence for strategic analysis with a portfolio of regular insights and analysis products.      

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Head of Group Strategy to drive the Group’s long-term strategic direction and support GCSO’s discussion with Group CEOs and Board. Ensure the Group’s strategy is aligned well with the market and competitive environment.
  • On behalf of Group CEOs, Management Committee and Board, lead analysis and research, of high-impact business issues associated with Singtel Group strategy topics/projects.
  • Build a center of excellence for strategic analysis through driving analysis and insights and creating a portfolio of regular insights and analysis products for senior management. Manage and develop a team of skilled analysts.
  • Monitor and identify/evaluate opportunities/trends/threats/competitor moves. Develop insightful recommendations on strategic direction and specific project opportunities that can help our management team move the needle in the telecoms industry.
  • Build compelling cases for projects that will motivate key stakeholders. Advocate/ champion projects with managers across the business.

 

 The ideal candidate should have/ be:

  • Degree in Accounting, Business or Finance and with strong analytical and financial skills.
  • At least 8 years of relevant working experience.
  • A big picture thinker who is willing to challenge status quo and drive transformation where needed.
  • An incisive lead analyst, competent in leading and structuring business, financial & investment analysis.
  • A good people manager, skilled at guiding and developing junior analysts in the team.
  • A strong communicator, able to craft a story and sell it in many different forms and media, depending on type and size of audience – from Board & C-level to working level.
  • A flexible multi-tasker, able to manage several projects at one time.
