Optus is an Australian telecommunications company, delivering more than 11 million services to our customers every day across mobile, broadband, and digital solutions.We are looking for a Domain Architect to join our Cloud & Infrastructure Engineering team and lead the design and delivery of scalable, secure, and future-ready network solutions across the Cloud domain. Reporting to the Associate Director of Cloud & Infrastructure Engineering, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to align network architecture with strategic objectives, ensure governance, and manage operational and risk frameworks.

 

This role combines technical depth with leadership and strategic vision. You will guide and mentor platform and service owners, translate business strategies into practical solutions, and drive major projects to completion. Leveraging expertise in mobile data networks and cloud technologies, you will shape innovative architectures that optimize performance, support growth, and enable Optus to achieve its goals.

 

What you’ll be doing

  • Develop and align long-term network strategies within the Cloud domain to support organizational goals and growth plans.
  • Define and enforce network policies, standards, and procedures ensuring compliance with industry regulations and best practices.
  • Lead and mentor platform owners, provide architectural guidance, and ensure timely delivery of major projects and deployments.
  • Design, implement, and maintain scalable, high-performance network infrastructures; deliver best-of-breed solutions for new products.
  • Communicate technical concepts clearly to management and customers, present plans, progress reports, and proposals effectively.
  • Contribute to security strategy workshops, oversee implementation of security measures, and develop risk mitigation strategies.
  • Collaborate with vendors to evaluate emerging technologies, enhance networking capabilities, and select optimal equipment and services.

 

What makes you perfect for the role?

  • Degree in IT, Telecommunications Engineering, or related discipline (or equivalent).
  • 10+ years’ experience with comprehensive knowledge of mobile data networks, telecom networking, carrier-grade systems, and Cloud technologies with at least 7 years working with Cloud platforms, technologies, and protocols.
  • Skilled in translating strategic plans into practical solutions, leading multi-disciplinary teams, and driving change initiatives.
  • Strong ability to resolve complex technology/business issues, optimize network performance, and implement innovative engineering solutions.
  • Hands-on experience in carrier design requirements, fixed/mobile network product development, FMC implementation, and new technology introduction.
  • Self-driven in upskilling across multiple disciplines and staying ahead of emerging technologies and market trends.
