The Enterprise Security Architect is accountable for defining and driving security architecture strategy, standards, and innovation for their designated domain within Optus. As a principal-level architect, this role establishes enterprise-wide architecture standards, leads strategic technology initiatives, provides thought leadership, and ensures security architecture excellence across their domain of expertise.

As a member of the Enterprise Security Architecture team and Security Architecture Chapter, this Principal Architect provides strategic guidance and technical authority to platform engineering teams, conducts advanced security research and proof-of-concepts, mentors embedded platform architects, and drives security architecture alignment across the organization.

This is a senior technical leadership role (individual contributor) requiring deep domain expertise, thought leadership capability, and the ability to influence enterprise-wide security strategy and platform engineering delivery through architectural authority, innovation, and technical excellence without direct management responsibility.

What You’ll Do

  • Design and drive the security architecture vision and strategy for the domain, establishing standards and reference architectures aligned to business and industry best practice.
  • Evolve and integrate domain security architecture across the enterprise, providing thought leadership to address emerging threats and ensure cohesion.
  • Develop and maintain architecture standards and patterns, covering security controls, integrations, data flows, and technology configurations.
  • Govern architectural decisions and adoption, maintaining ADRs and repositories and embedding standards and best practices across engineering teams.
  • Drive security technology research and innovation, evaluating emerging threats, platforms, and vendors, and leading proof‑of‑concepts for future capabilities.
  • Provide architectural authority to platform teams, reviewing designs, resolving complex issues, and ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture.
  • Enable governance, mentorship, and cross‑domain collaboration, representing the domain in enterprise forums and developing architectural capability across teams.

What makes you perfect for the role?

  • Bachelor’s degree (minimum) in Computer Science, Information Security, or related field, with strong grounding in enterprise and security architecture disciplines.
  • 12+ years in information security, including 7+ years in security architecture and 3+ years in senior/principal/enterprise architect roles.
  • Proven experience designing enterprise‑scale security architectures in large, complex, and regulated environments.
  • Expert knowledge of domain security technologies, platforms, and frameworks and integration architectures.
  • Strong architectural governance and documentation capability, including standards, reference architectures, ADRs, and architecture models.
  • Recognised architectural leader with strong communication, influence, and mentoring skills, able to balance strategic rigor with pragmatic delivery across teams.
