We are looking for a Finance Manager – Capital Management to lead capital accounting operations, oversee a team of Finance Executives, and ensure the accurate governance of capital expenditure across Optus' capital project portfolio. This role is responsible for driving high-quality financial oversight, strengthening capital management controls, supporting month-end reporting, and partnering with business stakeholders to deliver operational excellence and continuous improvement.

1. Team Leadership & Delivery Management

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of Finance Executives to deliver high-quality capital management activities.
  • Allocate and prioritise workloads to ensure timely delivery of operational and month-end requirements.
  • Review work outputs including WIP analysis, capitalisation, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Provide technical guidance on capital accounting policies and business processes.
  • Foster an inclusive, collaborative, and high-performing team culture through coaching and continuous learning.

2. Capital Project Governance & Stakeholder Management

  • Partner with Senior Directors, Project Managers, and business stakeholders to provide financial oversight of capital projects.
  • Monitor project spend, work-in-progress (WIP), and capitalisation readiness throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Review project assumptions, timelines, and supporting documentation to ensure compliance with capital management policies.
  • Resolve complex stakeholder enquiries and provide recommendations to improve capital project outcomes.
  • Build strong working relationships to support effective governance and decision-making.

3. Work-in-Progress (WIP) Monitoring & Capitalisation

  • Oversee weekly and monthly WIP reviews to ensure completeness, accuracy, and timely capitalisation.
  • Review Asset in Service (AIS) submissions and supporting documentation for compliance.
  • Identify aged WIP balances, project delays, or capitalisation risks and coordinate timely resolution.
  • Ensure accurate classification of capital expenditure and adherence to accounting standards.
  • Drive accountability with project stakeholders to improve capital management performance.

4. Financial Reporting & Compliance

  • Lead month-end close activities relating to capital accounting and fixed assets.
  • Review capital expenditure reporting, balance sheet reconciliations, and capitalisation journals.
  • Analyse trends, variances, and key performance indicators to provide meaningful financial insights.
  • Support internal and external audit activities by maintaining complete and accurate documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with capital management policies, internal controls, and governance frameworks.

5. Process Improvement & Transformation

  • Identify and implement opportunities to simplify, standardise, and automate capital management processes.
  • Support finance transformation initiatives, including SAP S/4HANA, Tagetik, and system enhancement projects.
  • Improve data quality, process efficiency, and reporting capabilities across capital accounting activities.
  • Maintain and enhance Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and control documentation.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.

6. Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate with Finance, Technology, Project Management, and Shared Services teams to deliver consistent outcomes.
  • Coordinate with offshore teams to ensure alignment of processes, timelines, and service quality.
  • Act as the key finance contact for operational issues and cross-functional capital management initiatives.
  • Support knowledge sharing and adoption of best practices across the organisation.

Skills for Success

  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related discipline.
  • Professional accounting qualification (CA, CPA, ACCA, or equivalent) is an advantage.
  • Minimum 6 years of relevant experience in capital accounting, fixed assets, project accounting, or financial management.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and developing finance teams.
  • Strong knowledge of capital accounting principles, fixed asset accounting, and financial governance.
  • Experience with SAP (S/4HANA preferred), Tagetik, or similar ERP and reporting platforms.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and financial reporting capabilities.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and influencing skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
  • Continuous improvement mindset with experience driving process optimisation and transformation initiatives.
  • High attention to detail, sound judgement, and commitment to maintaining strong financial controls.
