The AD of Product Development is a critical role in monetising the multi-year, multi-billion-dollar investment by Optus in 5G network technology.  This role will lead the early-stage development of new 5G products and features that will ultimately drive return on network investment.


This role will be accountable for the commercialization of new 5G technologies and the development of new 5G products and enablers from concept through to commercialization, including:


Key Responsibilities:

  • Understand customer needs and demand drivers for 5G products
  • Understand and influence the 5G technology roadmap
  • Monitor and respond to competitive activity in the 5G space
  • Ensure regulatory compliance of all 5G products
  • Define products and customer propositions that are compelling, competitive and commercially viable
  • Set initial pricing for 5G products
  • Ensure end-to-end CX of 5G products
  • Sponsor and manage the delivery of 5G product initiatives
  • Manage the initial commercial performance of the 5G portfolio
  • Transition commercialised products through to BAU operations
  • Build understanding of international best-practice for 5G products and services
  • Develop the AOP plans and associated forecasts and targets
  • Define the 5G device requirements and roadmap and work with stakeholders to optimise features, cost and supply
  • Address any in-life operational issues
  • Deliver compelling digital-first 5G experiences for onboarding, discover and use



  • Degree in Marketing, Business or Engineering
  • Data and analytics management skills and experience from concept to execution
  • Marketing plan development including positioning, promotion and pricing
  • Ability to turn strategy into viable business
  • Solid financial skills in business case development, campaign projections and forecasting
  • Strong people leadership experience, experience leading a team of scale
  • Track record of P&L management
  • Minimum 15 years professional experience in marketing or similar areas
  • 5 years consumer telecommunications experience including experience of a large customer base
  • Ability to influence across a senior audience
  • Ability to create & execute strategic objectives and plans
  • Proactive in reporting progress to senior Management and cross–functional teams
  • Commercially focused, drives for profit and understands how to manipulate the acquisition, retention and yield levers within a complex services business  
  • Highly analytical and with the ability to use date to persuade and drive decisions
  • Demonstrates financial & commercial acumen
