About the Role

The Associate Director Mass Markets has responsibility for Supermarket channels and Big W. In this role you develop and implement strategies to enhance the growth, revenue and market share of Optus and their associated brands within these channels. Leading a team of National Account Executives (NAE) you will coach your team to maximise sales opportunities by proactively developing and managing relationships at a strategic level within each account by engaging the senior key stakeholders including General Manager level and above.


More specifically:

  • Effectively manage strategic relationships at a senior level within accounts
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to develop a strong sales culture
  • Manage the sales administration function, operational performance reporting, streamlining processes and systems wherever possible, and advising senior management on maximising business relationships and creating an environment where customer service can flourish.
  • Develop a joint business plan with all customers covering sales, revenue, and expense controls, meeting agreed targets, and promoting the organisation’s presence in the markets of responsibility.
  • Develop and recommend product positioning, packaging, and pricing strategy to produce the highest possible long-term market share
  • Achieve satisfactory profit/loss ratio and market share in relation to present standards and industry and economic trends
  • Oversee and evaluate market research pertaining to Consumer Electronics and Discount Department Stores, and adjust marketing strategy to meet changing market and competitive conditions
  • Establish and maintain relationships with industry influencers and key strategic partners
  • Direct market channel development activity and coordinates sales distribution by establishing sales territories, quotas, and goals
  • Represent company at trade association meetings to promote product
  • Effective Category Management of Optus and associated brands within Supermarkets and associated strategic thought leadership, effective partnering within Optus and with the key stakeholders within individual accounts to
  • achieve collective success
  • Accountable for the A&P/Trade spend budget and spend control for Supermarkets


About You

We are looking for the following, skills attributes and experience

  • 10 years FMCG and strategic account management
  • Master degree or diploma in business administration preferred
  • Extensive Sales Experience in a retail or mass market channel based environment with major retail chains         
  • Understanding of the telecommunications industry, its drivers and the telecommunications market
  • Strong MS Office skills and use of IRI/Nielsen Data         
  • Successful “New Business” sales history        
  • Project Management Skills         
  • Effective leader and  determined and motivated self-starter with initiative
