The purpose of this role is to provide a high level of business and technical consultancy in all areas of Information Communications Technologies (ICT) to strategic customer accounts. 

The Domain Architect exhibits in-depth technology and good business knowledge across a range of industry segments and technology specialties within the ICT space to deliver solutions to Optus customers. The role will place a strong emphasis on the value proposition of ‘enterprise-wide’ solutions to address a customer’s varying business needs.

You must have a strong background in the areas of telecommunications, networking and information technology, applications and implementation/migration challenges across financial services.  You’ll need to be capable of developing innovative and complex ICT road maps, articulating the plan and influencing technical stakeholders of varying levels both externally and internally. 

The Domain Architect is responsible for providing direction and leadership to technical teams, potentially drawing on expertise from the broader Optus business when targeting major opportunities and developing associated proposals. This will include being responsible for supporting a large complex account whose commercial needs require sophisticated, innovative and integrated business solutions. Awareness and appreciation of the risk, compliance and regulatory framework of the Financial Services Industry is all required.

The Domain Architect is the overall solution owner for streams of a major customer engagement, covering ongoing relationship and major offer stages:

  1. Ongoing relationship:  providing professional enterprise-wide design and consultancy services to develop innovative ‘whole-of-business’ relationships on an ongoing basis, to address customer business requirements through technology, application and services
  2. Offers stages:  providing major solution offers (bids), covering technology and is instrumental in defining the winning business-to-technology value proposition.

The role will be extensively customer facing and requires a strong rapport with the customer with extensive experience of presenting to Director level and engineering lead level, contribution to proposal authoring and innovative thinking.

The position provides a key link between the sales process, product capability owners, and implementation teams.

Skills and Experience (must have’s) to be considered for this role are as follows;

  • Extensive working experience in the ICT industry providing technical and consulting support.
  • Degree qualified in an engineering discipline (either Telecommunications or Information Technology at Certificate IV level).
  • Multiple Tertiary qualifications (Engineering/Science/Finance) and/or Post Graduate qualifications (MBA, Management Diploma) will be highly regarded
  • Certified in enterprise service management and/or architecture methodologies and frameworks such as ITIL Foundations v3 and TOGAF (9.1)
  • Broad-based ICT/Telecommunications systems design background with detailed understanding of enterprise-wide system architecture and service management methodologies.        
  • Understanding of industry trends and directions (local and international)              
  • Professional affiliations to industry bodies such as IEEE, ACS or ATUG
  • Relevant vendor and industry certifications. E.g. Cisco CCNA/CCIE, Microsoft, Google, AWS Solutions Architect Associate,  Juniper, Storage platforms (e.g. Pure/EMC), VMWare Certified Professional (VCP5-DCV)
  • Experience or certification in equivalent Cloud technologies such as Kubernetes, Docker Virtualization, SDN, NFV, SD- WAN
  • Ability to recognize and analyse the customer’s business needs and translate them into relevant ICT solutions.
  • Be able to articulate the value proposition to the customer.         
  • Understand the role of telecommunications support tools in the areas of Business and Operational Support.
  • Experience in the development of long-term business relationships and developing strategic sales plans are essential.            
  • Ability to lead major Design teams through setting the architecture strategy, including leading RFT submission activities             
  • Strong thought leadership and collaboration skills            
  • Advanced knowledge of contract, risk and commercial risks         
  • Proactive in the establishment of professional relationships at relevant levels within the customer structured
  • Strong verbal, written, documentation and design, presentation and effective listening skills
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Advanced consulting and selling skills covering strategic positioning and enterprise-wide solutions-based selling at Director Level.
  • Understand financial principles and engage in financial return discussions with customers, including the ability to produce costing models
  • Team orientated mindset is a must have.
