The Associate Director of Building Engineering Project Management will be the focal point within Networks for the strategy, planning, design, and delivery of Optus Network Facilities infrastructure. This includes Exchanges, Data Centres, Hosting Facilities, Satellite Facilities, Fibre and Radio Access Nodes (FAN), and Controlled Environmental Vaults (CEV). The role has national accountability for delivering multiple Network Facilities projects on time and within budget.

The day to day

  • Formulate medium-term strategies for the upgrade and development of new Facilities infrastructure based on planning and capacity management data. Develop the annual operating plan (AOP) of capital requirements for all Building Infrastructure Engineering, encompassing requirements across resilience, growth, EOL, and strategic disciplines.
  • Create detailed 1 to 3 Year Facilities Plans defining projects, timing, and capital budgets. Ensure compliance with corporate risk policies and replacement of aged plant. Secure capital funding through submissions and presentations to Capital Review Boards.
  • Develop and benchmark Facilities Build Standards. End-to-end management of Facilities projects, ensuring they meet Build Standards, planned In-Service dates, and budget. Collaborate with Procurement to establish suitable supplier agreements.
  • Provide specialist consultancy and support services to Facilities stakeholders. Maintain Facilities records, including ‘As Builts’, Operations, and Maintenance Manuals.
  • Stay informed on industry trends and forecasts to align strategies with organisational objectives. Communicate and present to senior management and various committees.

Why you are our next Associate Director Building Engineering Project Management

  • Tertiary qualifications relevant to the Design, Engineering, or Project Management of Facilities infrastructure. Knowledge of Telecommunication Facilities, including network power systems (AC, DC, and earthing).
  • Extensive Project Management experience with infrastructure or building-type projects. Working understanding of the Building Code of Australia.
  • Proven commercial management skills with CAPEX and OPEX budgets. Awareness of building/power industry trends and new technologies.
  • Exceptional communication, relationship management, and leadership skills.
  • Experience in influencing and presenting to senior management and board-level executives. Strong commercial negotiation skills and the ability to manage complex issues concurrently.
