Based in Macquarie Park, Sydney, The Director – Infrastructure Engineering (Access Network) leads the strategy, engineering, and enablement of mobile access site infrastructure, with a strong focus on radio technologies (4G, 5G, and beyond) and network resiliency. The role requires deep expertise across access network technologies, power systems, and industry best practices to deliver scalable resiliency improvements, simplify operations, and enhance service delivery.
Your day to day will consist of
- Define the multi‑year mobile access site infra, power system and controls roadmap for macro, micro, small cell, and edge sites (urban, suburban, rural, off‑grid/weak‑grid)
- Ensure alignment of strategy with broader network transformation goals and business priorities.
- Define reference designs and BoMs for various site archetypes and environmental classes (temperature, altitude, corrosion).
- Ensure compliance with electrical codes, grounding/bonding practices, EMC, and battery/generator regulations; maintain approvals/certifications where required.
- Implement resilience designs (N+1 rectifiers, dual feeds, redundant controllers, graceful load shedding) and cybersecurity controls for OT assets (hardening, role‑based access, certificates, logging).
- Run vendor selection (RFI/RFP/benchmarks/FATs), type approvals, and NPI (first‑office applications, acceptance criteria, and rollout playbooks).
- Own engineering standards and method of procedures (MoPs) for installation, commissioning, and maintenance.
- Drive EHS and electrical safety practices (LOTO, arc flash/clearance, battery handling/spill response) with zero harm goals.
- Oversee energy audits & optimisation, load studies, and battery autonomy modelling; validate capacity vs. RAN evolution (RRU, Massive MIMO, 5G SA/ORAN loads).
- Drive the delivery of multi-year program to uplift access site resiliency that improve operational efficiency, network resilience, observability, automation and service performance.
- Ensure robust documentation, testing, and deployment practices are established
- Manage the cyber compliance aspects of the site infrastructure, either new integration or lifecycle management
- Establish and sustain high-performing teams with strong engineering and delivery capabilities and a desire to deliver under pressure.
- Manage a portfolio of mobile site resiliency uplift programs and projects within Access Network, ensuring timely delivery and strategic alignment.
- Oversee CAPEX budget planning, tracking, and reporting for access site infrastructure initiatives.
- Implement governance frameworks for internal/external processes for design, delivery, ensuring consistent delivery standards.
What makes you perfect for the role
- Degree in Telecommunications, Electrical, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
- Demonstrated experience in Mobile RAN site solutions & lifecycle management of DC and AC power systems for Telecom, Battery technologies, Generator and Hybrid power systems, Advanced site controllers, Telemetry frameworks, Secure remote management.
- Proven experience leading national‑scale infrastructure modernization or transformation programs (1,000+ sites).
- Strong understanding of mobile radio technologies (4G/5G), OSS platforms, and network orchestration.
- Strong commercial acumen: major vendor agreements, contract structuring, SLA/KPI governance.
- Strong program management skills including budget oversight and governance.
- Excellent communication, Decision making and stakeholder management capabilities.
