Director, NTN Strategy

Date: 21 Jul 2026

Location: Macquarie Park, Australia

Company: Singtel Group

Optus is an Australian telecommunications company, delivering more than 11 million services to our customers every day across mobile, broadband and digital solutions.

We're looking for a Director, Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) Strategy to join our Networks team based in Macquarie Park, this is a pivotal executive leadership role responsible for shaping how Optus delivers connectivity beyond the traditional network. As the technology landscape evolves with LEO satellite, HAPS, and emerging direct-to-device solutions, you'll lead the strategy that defines Optus' role in that future.

What You'll Do

  • Own the end-to-end NTN strategy lifecycle — from ideation and opportunity identification through to launch, governance, and ongoing management.
  • Lead the development of short, mid, and long-term strategy for NTN technologies including LEO Satellite (Direct-to-Mobile, Direct-to-Device, Fixed), HAPS, and other emerging connectivity solutions.
  • Drive competitive and market analysis to identify gaps, opportunities, and partnership prospects — ensuring Optus stays ahead of the curve.
  • Develop business cases, commercial evaluations, and solution designs; working across regulatory, legal, and finance teams to secure approvals.
  • Manage strategic partner relationships — from early-stage LEO Sat start-ups to multinational tech companies — to co-create and implement NTN solutions.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to execute the NTN strategy program, including oversight of capex/opex planning of large budgets, forecasting, and ROI management.
  • Lead the technical and commercial delivery of the government's UOMO (Universal Outdoor Mobile Coverage Obligation) requirement.
  • Represent NTN strategy at SLT and ExCo level, influencing and aligning stakeholders across the organisation.

What makes you perfect for the role?

  • Deep experience in strategic roles and product management within telecommunications or technology industries.
  • Years in senior management, with a strong track record of leading cross-functional teams in complex organisations.
  • Deep understanding of NTN technologies — LEO satellite, HAPS, or adjacent emerging connectivity solutions highly regarded.
  • Strong commercial acumen — experienced in P&L management, financial modelling, business case development, and budget oversight.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence and build relationships at executive and board level.
  • Strategic and entrepreneurial mindset — you think big, act decisively, and bring structured, data-driven thinking to complex problems.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher; MBA advantageous.

The good stuff….

  • 💜 Competitive remuneration and employee discounts. Make life easier (and more affordable) with $80 monthly credit and 25% off Optus products and unique shopping discounts with our retail partners.
  • 🏠 Flexible working arrangements with opportunities to work three days in the office, two days remote or home.
  • 🙌 Vibrant and collaborative office campus that includes cafes, convenience store, chill out zones, GP, post office, gym and on-site childcare centre.
  • 📅 Competitive leave policies, including additional 'Connected' days to focus on culture, family, health, community, or whatever's important to you.
  • 👨‍👩‍👧 We support growing families with inclusive, carer-neutral paid Parental Leave of up to 16 weeks.
  • 🌱 Direct your own development and build future-ready skills with Optus U's industry-focused micro-credentials, developed with La Trobe and Macquarie Universities.
  • 🤝 Build meaningful connections through employee-led networks and diversity initiatives including Culture Connect, Elevate Women, Disability Network and Express Yourself (LGBTQIA+).
  • 🧘 Put your wellbeing first with free access to counselling and support services, 24/7 — in-person, by phone, SMS, or video.
  • 🚌 Free Optus bus from Macquarie University Metro Station (every 6-8 minutes); morning and afternoon.
