Principal Tech Specialist Automation

Job Summary

 

Transport Network Automation team maintains automation platforms and deliver automation solutions to optimize Transport Planning processes and Operational Fulfillment or Assurance processes. This role requires working knowledge of Networking technologies, Software development, Systems and DevOps engineering. This function is responsible for leading the solution architecture, design and development of automation solutions for the Optus transport network including automation of processes used for transport planning, provisioning, upgrading and maintaining external Internet connections, IP routing, Carrier Ethernet, DWDM, Fibre and racking.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

The role will be developing solution designs that aligns with the long-term high-level automation architectures for the transport network and Optus.  The role will also include designing the platform and/or application architecture for the automation solutions, as well as determining if the solution will be done internally, via third party developer or a hybrid of the two. 

  • Propose new technologies and tools to improve our delivery speed and increase quality. Take an active role in driving and evolving the roadmap in the CICD Engineering, aka Developer Experience domain.
  • For external developments the role will need to create work packages and associated SOW documentations, engage procurement for RFQ/RFP process, identify and engage suitable suppliers, work collaboratively with selected supplier to manage the delivery. 
  • For internal developments the incumbent will need to lead the agile team to create the automation solutions including configuring the tools, programming systems and/or building new systems.
  • an excellent communicator, incumbent will work with teams to understand their pain points, incorporate them into the roadmap, and act as an evangelist to help other teams take advantage of the capabilities this team produces.
  • Maintain architectural diagram designs and documentation to help partnering infrastructure and application teams to understand the boundaries and capabilities of the tools available to them.

 

Experience and Qualifications

 

  • Relevant tertiary qualification (e.g. bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in relevant discipline
  • Total 10+ Years of working experience in relevant Software and/or Systems Engineering space. At least 5+ Years of experience in Telecom, ISP or service provider industry.
  • Minimum 5 to 7 years of experience in coding and configuration with ability to code in multiple languages such as Python, Javascript, Java, Go, .Net etc.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience with Open Source Tools / Technology and Industry standards with working in DevOps/Agile environment, test tools and procedures
  • Experience in managing agile/DevOps teams and CI/CD pipeline is required
  • Experience in leading cross domain development projects is required
  • Experience in the development of network automation solutions on platforms such as Ansible (also Chef, Puppet etc.)
