Optus is an Australian telecommunications company, delivering more than 11 million services to our customers every day across mobile, broadband and digital solutions.

Join Optus as a Principal Technical Specialist (Internet Network Infrastructure / Internet Interconnect) where you’ll design, implement, and optimize IP network solutions and Internet interconnect systems that power our mobile, voice, and cloud platforms. This strategic role blends technical leadership with hands-on delivery, ensuring seamless connectivity, automation, and compliance across complex Telco environments.

We’re looking for candidates with experience in both or either discipline to fill multiple roles, so if you have expertise in IP networking, interconnect, or both, we want to hear from you!

Your day to day will consist of

  • Design and implement IP connectivity and interconnect solutions for Internet Network platforms.
  • Develop detailed low-level designs, documentation, and configuration for deployment.
  • Configure and maintain automation tools (e.g., Ansible, NSO) for network implementation.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and vendors to resolve design and integration issues.
  • Support onboarding of new network devices and interconnect elements into production.
  • Provide technical guidance during critical operational issues and solution reviews

What makes you perfect for the role?

  • Degree in Telecommunications Engineering or related discipline.
  • 5+ years in IP network design and/or interconnect solutions for large-scale Telco/ISP environments.
  • Strong knowledge of IP protocols (BGP, OSPF, ISIS, MPLS, VXLAN/EVPN) and interconnect standards.
  • Hands-on experience with Cisco, Juniper, or Nokia devices in production environments.
  • Proficiency in automation tools such as Ansible and NSO for network configuration.
  • Understanding of hybrid cloud networking, security segmentation, and MPLS VPN routing.
  • Excellent documentation and stakeholder communication skills, including senior management.
  • Desirable: Vendor certifications (Cisco, Juniper, Nokia), Python scripting, SRv6 knowledge
