Optus is a leading Australian telecommunications provider, delivering more than 11 million services every day across mobile, broadband and digital solutions.
We’re seeking a Risk Governance and Performance Manager to strengthen risk, controls, and compliance across our Consumer Business Unit. Working at the intersection of data, risk, and decision‑making, you’ll translate complex information into clear insights that support leaders, protect customers, and drive effective frontline execution.
With end‑to‑end oversight of Consumer risk and compliance, you’ll partner with senior leaders, risk and compliance teams, and analytics to identify trends, surface emerging risks, and support governance forums. This is an ideal role for someone who enjoys working with data, influencing stakeholders, and connecting risk frameworks to real customer, regulatory, and business outcomes.
What You’ll Do
- Create a consistent approach to governance within the Line 1 Risk & Controls team and play a lead role in preparing materials for Consumer Business unit governance forums and underlying business profile risk forums
- Put that approach into practice, collaborating with other members of the line 1 risk team and business partners to assemble governance materials that provide timely and accurate information to enable oversight and decision making.
- Design and deliver automated reporting tools and dashboard that provides clear visibility of controls performance, issues, incidents, risks and compliance obligations, enabling day to day management of risk as well as good governance outcomes across Consumer.
- Establish and track key risk indicators (KRIs), control metrics, and leading indicators aligned to risk appetite.
- Analyse data to identify control gaps, systemic issues, and emerging risks, escalating material findings through governance forums.
- Translate complex datasets into clear, compelling insights to support senior leadership decision‑making.
- Partner with Line 1, Line 2, analytics, IT, and risk teams to support assurance activities, control uplift initiatives, and reporting automation.
- Act as a trusted advisor to Consumer leaders on control effectiveness and risk performance, while championing a strong risk‑based culture.
What makes you perfect
- 5+ years’ experience in governance, audit, controls performance, risk, compliance, assurance, quality, or insights‑led roles—ideally in a regulated, customer‑facing environment.
- Demonstrated experience preparing written materials for senior governance forums related to risk and compliance matters
- Strong understanding of risk and control frameworks, governance, and regulatory obligations.
- Demonstrated experience delivering meaningful reporting, analytics, or assurance outcomes for senior stakeholders.
- Strong analytical capability, with the ability to turn data into practical, outcome‑focused insights.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with confidence influencing across multiple functions, and experience in coaching others to improve outcomes.
- A pragmatic, customer‑centric approach to risk—focused on improving outcomes, not checklist compliance.
