Operating in a technically complex, dynamic and heavily regulated industry, the Senior Corporate Counsel (SCC) will assist the DGC in advising on employment law, workplace relations and WHS law services to the business. Working as part of the Corporate Services team, the SCC will report to the Deputy General Counsel, Corporate Services.

 

Advisory responsibilities:

 

  • Optus group companies on workplace strategy, including implementation of change, restructuring and enterprise bargaining;
  • Employment and IR aspects of corporate deals, plus general employment law including unfair dismissal, discrimination, bullying, employment contracts and termination of employment;
  • Workplace compliance and governance, including the development of policies and procedures, and training;
  • Employment disputes, litigation, including industrial action and dispute resolution;
  • Work, health and safety law and compliance;
  • Working autonomously and providing supervision and instruction to more junior members of the legal team; &
  • Briefing external lawyers in consultation with the DGC.

 

You'll be expected to have or develop expertise in the legal areas relating to the part of the business they're supporting through the proactive monitoring of legal developments that impact the relevant business area. You will work with other team members and business colleagues to ensure business processes comply with the law!

 

Additionally, you'll be with the business to embed a culture of education and compliance in relation to policies procedures and behaviours across the business that are not only in line with and meet our legislative obligations, and allow insight and continual improvement in these areas, whilst being able to operate commercially.

 

Your background for success ...

 

  • Admitted as a solicitor in one or more States in Australia;
  • In house experience with 7+ years post admission legal experience in employment, workplace relations and WHS;
  • Ability to provide commercially focused legal support and proven commercial competence;
  • Strong drafting and negotiation skills, as well as project management skills; &
  • Robust written and verbal communications skills with ability to communicate to people in a range of positions.
