Location: Macquarie Park, Australia

Company: Singtel Group

Optus is an Australian telecommunications company, delivering more than 11 million services to our customers every day across mobile, broadband and digital solutions.

Join us as Senior Director for Consumer Controls & Risk.

You will lead the development and ongoing improvement of the first line of defence within the Consumer division. In this pivotal senior leadership role, you will shape and drive risk strategy, strengthen operational resilience, and build a mature, forward‑looking risk culture. Collaborating with Consumer leaders, technology teams, and core assurance groups, you will invent fit-for-purpose controls. You will improve compliance capability and support the division in meeting its strategic objectives safely, sustainably, and according to regulatory expectations.

What You’ll Do

  • Owning the Consumer division’s end‑to‑end risk and controls agenda, ensuring alignment with enterprise frameworks and regulatory obligations.
  • Leading all aspects of the identification, assessment, documentation, and ongoing management of operational risks, including maintaining robust, audit‑ready risk registers.
  • Crafting, implementing, and embedding effective controls across Consumer processes, driving continuous improvement and operational resilience.
  • Providing clear, insightful reporting and advice to senior leadership, governance forums and regulators to support confident, risk‑aware decision‑making.
  • Building, mentoring, and empowering a high‑performing team across Risk & Compliance and Channel Controls, fostering a culture of integrity, accountability, and excellence.

What You Bring

  • Extensive experience leading operational risk, compliance and controls functions within large, sophisticated environments—ideally within telecommunications or a similarly regulated industry.
  • Proven capability in crafting and uplifting risk and controls frameworks, with strong analytical, problem‑solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Outstanding leadership skills, with a track record of developing high‑performing teams and driving a strong risk culture across diverse collaborator groups.
  • Sophisticated influencing and collaborator leadership skills, including partnering with C‑suite executives, technology leaders and central assurance teams.
  • Deep knowledge of regulatory requirements, industry standard methodologies, and proactive approaches to risk identification, assurance, and continuous improvement.
