The Senior Engineer leads end to end solution design and implementation, provides technical scoping and presales support, mentors mid to junior engineers, and contributes consultancy and policy guidance to ensure robust, consistent delivery of Optus Business network and IP telephony solutions.

 

What you’ll be doing

  • Conduct system analysis, technical design, implementation, testing, and maintenance of customer solutions across networks, IP telephony, security, systems, storage, and wireless technologies, providing technical leadership throughout delivery.
  • Work closely with project managers and customers to set and manage expectations, deliver excellent customer service, resolve complex technical issues, and ensure services are delivered on time and to agreed specifications.
  • Partner with Pre‑Sales Solution Architects to ensure accurate technical scoping, effort estimation, and pricing for solutions, including input into RFPs and proposals.
  • Support successful and profitable project outcomes by managing scope, identifying risks or overruns early, meeting utilisation and service call closure targets, and contributing to team billable performance.
  • Ensure adherence to Optus Business quality standards, project management processes, security requirements, and professional contribution standards, including accurate time recording and reporting.
  • Maintain and grow technical capability through certifications and training, share best practice and lessons learned across engineering teams, and stay current with vendor and industry developments.
  • Actively collaborate with peers, participate in team forums, and mentor mid‑to‑junior engineers to uplift capability and support national engineering outcomes.

What makes you perfect for the role?

  • Minimum of 8 years’ relevant technical experience with appropriate vendor certifications, including lead‑engineer experience in technical pre‑sales and customer solution delivery.
  • Strong hands‑on experience in the design, implementation, support, and fault diagnosis of medium to large‑scale networking, IP telephony, systems, storage, wireless, and security solutions, with a solid understanding of underlying hardware technologies.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships at all levels, conduct effective discovery of business requirements, and translate these into value‑driven technical solutions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, professional approach to clients and colleagues, and the ability to represent the organisation effectively during on‑site engagements.
  • High‑level problem‑solving and analytical capability, strong influencing and interpersonal skills, and sound commercial awareness to support successful project outcomes.
  • Highly customer‑focused, results‑oriented, and resilient under pressure, with strong initiative, flexibility, teamwork, and the ability to work autonomously, reprioritise effectively, and persist through complex delivery challenges.
