This role supports the Senior Director of Metro Access Engineering by delivering specialist expertise in planning and designing IP and Carrier Ethernet platforms. It is responsible for developing detailed engineering plans, conducting network modelling, and performing capacity and performance analysis to ensure the network meets KPI and growth requirements. What you’ll be doing

  • Develop network plans to support long‑term growth across Consumer, Enterprise, and Mobile services.

  • Plan and design Access Network infrastructure, including POIs and metro/regional IP access aggregators.
  • Perform cost–benefit analyses to determine optimal upgrade or rearrangement strategies and initiate build activities.
  • Resolve complex fibre design challenges in a scalable and cost‑effective manner.
  • Identify integration opportunities across underground and aerial fibre networks in alignment with broader Transport and Network strategies.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams, support enterprise bids with designs and estimates, manage fibre planning projects, and provide training while representing the organisation in external forums.

What makes you perfect for the role?

  • Strong strategic capability with the ability to define long‑term network growth, modernisation, and cost‑optimisation directions.
  • Proven collaborator able to align cross‑functional teams, including Architecture, Deployment, Finance, Regulatory, and vendors toward shared outcomes.
  • Experience leading large‑scale programs with strong governance, ensuring delivery on time, within budget, and to required standards.
  • Skilled in vendor and stakeholder management, with strong negotiation and relationship‑building abilities across internal and external partners.
  • Deep technical expertise in Access Network architecture, including Carrier Ethernet, IP, clocking/sync technologies, and associated NMS platforms, alongside strong capacity planning and performance optimisation capabilities.
  • Demonstrated experience in cost modelling, financial analysis, technology evaluation, procurement, and driving process innovation and automation to improve planning and operational efficiency.
