The Role

Based in Macquarie Park, Sydney as a Senior Technical Specialist – Radio Quality Planning & Design, you’ll play a critical role in strengthening the resilience, reliability and performance of Optus’ Radio Access Network (RAN). You’ll provide deep technical expertise across RAN solutions, leading the onboarding, testing and optimisation of new radio technologies to ensure uninterrupted, high‑quality service for our customers.

Working closely with internal engineering teams, service assurance, project delivery and leading global RAN vendors, you’ll act as a technical authority across lab and production environments, with a strong focus on risk mitigation, network stability and continuous improvement. You’ll have Proficiency with at least one major RAN vendor solution - Ericsson and/or Nokia.

 

What You’ll Do

• Review access network business requirements across RAN software, hardware, features and solutions, identifying reliability and resilience improvement opportunities.
• Act as Technical Prime for new RAN product onboarding, including lab and field trial strategy, vendor governance and acceptance recommendations.
• Lead risk identification and mitigation planning for new RAN solutions, enhancing system reliability and service availability.
• Validate network performance through independent engineering methods, including radio log and protocol analysis, data analytics and trend evaluation.
• Deploy RAN software, features and solutions into the production network in line with agreed Methods of Procedure (MoP), monitoring post‑change performance and stability.
• Troubleshoot complex network issues across lab and live environments, contributing to root cause analysis and long‑term improvement strategies.
• Develop clear, concise engineering design, testing and operational documentation to support network deployment and assurance teams.
• Stay current with RAN design standards, emerging technologies and industry trends, continuously building capability across new tools and analysis techniques.
• Work collaboratively with service assurance, deployment, IP and Core teams to support end‑to‑end network integration and resiliency.

 

What you bring

• Extensive experience in telecommunications, with strong hands‑on expertise in RAN technology onboarding and optimisation.
• Deep technical knowledge across 5G SA, 5G NSA, LTE (FDD & TDD) and mobile network technologies.
• Strong experience with RAN protocol analysis (RRC, RRM), OSS, RAN network management and BTS design and testing.
• Proficiency with at least one major RAN vendor solution (Ericsson and/or Nokia).
• Experience with device testing, tracing across NR and LTE, and independent network performance assessment.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to identify systemic issues and recommend scalable, long‑term solutions.
• Understanding of automation and scripting concepts, with an interest in ML/AI‑driven RAN analytics.
• Proven ability to work across complex, multi‑stakeholder environments and communicate technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
