The Senior Technical Specialist, Access Solutions & Architecture provides technical leadership for RAN solutions within the Access Networks team, supporting the AD and broader strategic initiatives. As a mobile networks SME across 3G, 4G, and 5G with multi‑vendor experience (Huawei, Ericsson, Nokia), this role leads key technical, architectural, and lifecycle activities for the Optus Radio Access Network.
The day to day
- Stay current with RAN design standards, emerging technologies and industry trends, continuously building capability across new tools and analysis techniques.
- Leading the development of architectural blueprints for new networks and enhancements to production networks.
- Collaborating with business stakeholders, including project managers, and technical teams to determine business and technical requirements and constraints for RAN software, hardware, features and solutions.
- Formulating strategies and plans for emerging technologies (including Neutral Host, 6G, satellite access solutions) and recommending selected technologies.
- Support the design and documentation of end-to-end solutions for specific project or initiatives with senior solution architects.
- Translating business requirements into solution design through the creation of blueprints, diagrams, and technical specifications.
- Translates customer and/or business requirements into cost effective technical, functional, and operational design specifications and work with the solutions through into post go-live.
- Ensuring solutions conform to the strategic domain roadmap and adhere to the standards set by the Solution architects and Enterprise architects.
- Perform consultancy and advise of solution options for Business problems.
- Understand solution standards, guidelines, policies and best practice for technology, application and data within the domain.
- Development & Maintenance of RAN Design guidelines, documentation & bulletins.
- Influencing RAN vendors on hardware, antenna systems, software features & parameters and evaluation of new RAN products & solutions.
- Lifecycle management of legacy networks 3G decom and Huawei swap modernisation.
- Support for RAN sharing eJV, MOCN design, deployment & expansion.
- Involvement in AOP and 3–5 year planning cycles, Quality and Security Audits as required.

- Extensive experience in telecommunications, with strong hands‑on expertise in mobile networks RAN technology with major vendors (Ericsson and Nokia).
- RAN Solution and platform architecture and technical knowledge (3G/UMTS, 4G/LTE, 5G/NR NSA/SA, FDD & TDD).
- Good understanding of mobile base station design including antennas, MHA's combiners, filters, feeders, RRU, AAU, IPAA Solutions, baseband, backhaul, transport
- Experience with Macro, small cell and IBC site design and deployment.
- Skills with MOCN, MORAN, ORAN, CRAN, VRAN.
- Systems and Technology Integration including TCP/IP and networking protocols.
- Familiarity with systems Optus uses eg: MNIS, NDSS, Helix, RFNSA, ACMA databases.
- Awareness of EME and ACMA regulatory requirements and Optus processes.
- IT Standard, procedures and policies, Quality systems. Power BI Excel SQL reporting & analysis.
