The Senior Technical Specialist – Emergency Alerts Platform is responsible for the end-to-end ownership, lifecycle management, and technical governance of Optus’ Emergency Alerts and Emergency Notification platforms (NEWS / EAP). The role ensures the platform is secure, resilient, compliant with regulatory obligations, and capable of supporting nationally critical emergency alerting services, while providing technical leadership across platform enhancements, vendor delivery, and operational assurance.

 

Please note this is a 12 month fixed term contract.

 

Your day to day will consist of

  • Own the strategy, roadmap, and lifecycle management for the Emergency Alerts / NEWS platform, including upgrades, capacity management, enhancements, and end-of-life planning.
  • Act as the technical authority and platform owner, accountable for availability, resilience, scalability, and regulatory compliance.
  • Govern solution designs, impact assessments, and technical delivery for platform enhancement programs (e.g. EAP4 enhancements and ENL refresh).
  • Prepare and present solution options, architectural decisions, and platform recommendations to technical, security, and governance forums.
  • Ensure ongoing cyber security compliance, audit readiness, and adherence to Optus security policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Govern vendor technical delivery, including review of supplier designs, testing outputs, and change requests across onshore/offshore models.
  • Provide technical input into project artefacts including scope, requirements, risks, testing strategies, and go‑live readiness.
  • Support major incidents, audits, and emergency events requiring deep platform expertise and cross-functional coordination.
  • Manage infrastructure build programs including EWO/EO/PTW creation, contractor management and network equipment modelling and record updates.
  • Prepare, present and seek approval for Methods of Procedure (MOPs) to support network change.
  • Manage the implementation of planned work in lab and production environments.

  • Significant experience owning and governing Core Service platforms within telecommunications or other mission‑critical environments.
  • Strong background in solution design, technical governance, and lifecycle management of highly available platforms.
  • Deep understanding of system resilience, disaster recovery, security, and regulatory compliance.
  • Proven experience managing vendor delivery across complex, multi-party environments.
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, executive-level recommendations.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills across technical, operational, and external bodies.
  • High level of autonomy, resilience, and ability to manage competing priorities in a high-impact, regulated environment.
