The role serves as a subject matter expert within the Integration & Maintenance Engineering team, responsible for testing and integrating new software, hardware, and services into the Optus network, primarily across network infrastructure including firewall, proxy, security gateways, ELK stack, micro & macro segmentation. It also provides architecture, design and operational support , manages vendor issues, and supports fault resolution and integration deliverables, including after-hours work when required. The position demands strong independence, problem-solving skills, and a forward-thinking mindset with a focus on automation and modern testing approaches.

 

What You'll Do

  • Provide architecture, design, implementation, and maintenance support cyber security infrastructure.
  • Lead testing for major programs, coordinating testers and mentoring junior engineers.
  • Act as a subject matter expert, driving product testing, integration, and vendor defect resolution before deployment.
  • Manage production cutovers, ensuring minimal customer impact and effective rollback strategies.
  • Maintain platform ownership of network products, reducing outages through best practices and supported configurations. 
  • Perform software and hardware upgrades, testing new technologies and improving infrastructure efficiency.
  • Develop high-quality design, testing, and engineering documentation while contributing to network strategy and planning.
  • Monitor performance, drive optimisation initiatives, and act as the technical interface with vendors and stakeholders.

 

What You Bring

  • Degree qualification in Telecommunications Engineering (or related discipline) or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years’ telecommunications experience with broad and deep technical expertise across areas such as 3G/4G/5G, VoIP, IP networking, network secruity transmission, OSS, cloud, and voice technologies.
  • Strong understanding of network operations, processes, and customer issue diagnosis, including major fault management across multiple platforms.
  • Proven ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to senior stakeholders, including GM level, and engage with middle and senior management.
  • Experience in testing, proof of concept (PoC), and network design with practical, solution-focused implementation knowledge.
  • Experience working in large-scale network environments, with exposure to system integration and performance optimisation.
  • Professional certifications across key providers like Cisco, Checkpoint, Fortinet will be a plus.
