Every day, millions of Australians connect, work, stream, and stay in touch on the Optus network. When it works seamlessly, it’s easy to take for granted. But behind it is a team making thousands of decisions every day - decisions that keep people, businesses and communities connected.

Right now, Optus is focused on getting the fundamentals right - simplifying how we work, lifting standards, and building a more reliable, resilient experience for our customers.

It’s not about surface-level change. It’s about how we make decisions, how we work together, and how we deliver.

As a Solutions Architect, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams across the organization, including engineering, operations, security, and business stakeholders, to develop and implement high-level and low-level designs that align with our strategic objectives. You will also play a crucial role in driving technology innovation, lifecycle management, and governance to ensure our network infrastructure remains resilient, scalable, and future proof.

This role requires a blend of technical expertise in muti-technologies areas, leadership, and strategic thinking to design, implement, and manage robust network solutions that support an organization's objectives. The role will report to the Director – IP Core and Access Engineering/Networks.

What You’ll Do

  • Own the architecture, roadmap, performance, and lifecycle management of Common Packet Core, IP Access, and Management Networks, ensuring alignment with business and technology objectives.
  • Define strategic direction for network growth, resiliency, modernization, and decommissioning, while driving architectural evolution and platform optimisation.
  • Lead the adoption of emerging IP technologies, automation, and engineering best practices to improve network reliability, operational efficiency, and customer experience.
  • Provide end-to-end technical leadership across network design, governance, product integration, vendor management, major upgrades, cutovers, and Tier 3 operational support.

What You Bring

  • Degree-qualified Telecommunications/Network Engineer with 10+ years’ experience designing, implementing, and evolving large-scale, resilient carrier-grade fixed, mobile, and data networks.
  • Deep technical expertise across IP networking, routing and switching, MPLS/SRv6, EVPN/VXLAN, cloud and data centre networking, network automation, QoS, timing and synchronisation, and network security.
  • Strong network architecture and strategy leader with proven success translating business requirements into scalable, cost-effective solutions, driving technology roadmaps, new product introductions, PoCs, and network transformation initiatives.
  • Accomplished technical leader and problem-solver with extensive experience in cross-functional stakeholder engagement, vendor management, regulatory compliance, operational excellence, and delivery of complex telecommunications services across consumer, enterprise, wholesale, and mobile domains.

By empowering one another, backing bold ideas and helping you own your impact, we’ve designed a workplace that gives you the freedom to grow, the support to thrive, and the chance to be part of something bigger – a team that’s shaping a more connected, inclusive and inspired Australia.

The good stuff:

  • Competitive remuneration, plus $80 monthly credit, 25% off Optus products and exclusive shopping discounts with our retail partners — making everyday life a little more affordable. Genuine Flexibility - work three days in the office, two days from wherever works best for you.
  • An office campus that has it all - cafes chill out zones, GP, post office, gym and on-site childcare centre. It’s designed for real life.
  • Great leave policies, including additional 'Connected’ days to focus on culture, family, health, community, or whatever matters most to you.
  • Inclusive, carer-neutral paid Parental Leave of up to 16 weeks, because family comes first.
  • Build meaningful connections through employee-led networks and diversity initiatives including Culture Connect, Elevate Women, Disability Network and Express Yourself (LGBTQIA+).
  • Your wellbeing matters, so we offer with free counselling and support services, available 24/7  in-person, by phone, SMS, or video.
  • A free Optus bus from Macquarie University Metro Station (every 6-8 minutes); morning and afternoon. Or, heaps of onsite parking. Plus, end of trip facilities with lockers, showers, irons and hair dryers

Not every box ticked? Apply anyway. We believe the right mindset matter more than a perfect CV. We’ll back you to grow from there.
