We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Technical Specialist to join our Building Infrastructure Engineering team based in Macquarie Park, Sydney. This role is crucial in maintaining a reliable, stable, and safe equipment environment for all secondary technical facilities. You will be responsible for delivering best practice to minimise operational costs, optimise energy consumption, and ensure the continuous evolution of our infrastructure services to meet current and future demands.

Your day in the life of a Technical Specialist, Secondary Facilities at Optus

  • Implement and oversee the delivery of key secondary facilities infrastructure, including power, air conditioning, and building upgrades.
  • Provide input into secondary technical facilities site and building maintenance programs.
  • Lead the installation, testing, and handover of Environmental Alarm Systems to Operations.
  • Develop, handle, and improve stakeholder relations – both internal and external.
  • Use project management artefacts to ensure effective outcomes, including resource planning, delivery timelines, and alignment to quality standards.
  • Lead in identifying business impacts resulting from project implementation and proactively handle them.
  • Provide appropriate resource, reporting, and financial management inputs to ensure on-time delivery.
  • Deliver financial submissions and updates to sponsors and senior collaborators in accordance with capital management processes.
  • Prepare monthly financial forecasts and reconciliations against budget to ensure forecasting variance is maintained within 10%.
  • End-to-end accountability for on-time/budget delivery of projects and change requests.

Your skills to pay the bills

  • Qualifications in Electronics/Communications Engineering or Project Management, or demonstrated equivalent knowledge.
  • Detailed technical knowledge of telecommunication infrastructure, including optical fibre, coaxial cable, and twisted pair copper technologies.
  • Experience in managing projects in multiple remote locations across Australia (this role may require some travel).
  • Ability to handle specific work programs, schedules, and priorities from guidance provided by the Manager.
  • Ability to implement new and novel strategies and methods to achieve required goals as specified by the Manager.
  • Ability to work on multiple deployment programs simultaneously in a team environment.
  • Strong customer focus.
