About the role

We are seeking an experienced Technical Specialist to join our Performance and Optimisation team within the Consumer Networks function based in Sydney. This role plays a critical part in optimisation and performance management of Optus’ 4G and 5G Mobile Radio Access Network, with a strong focus on customer experience and network performance outcomes.

 

As a senior technical contributor, you will lead complex optimisation initiatives, introduce new technologies and act as a subject matter expert (SME) across state and national stakeholders.

 

Your day to day will consist of

  • Travelling to sites
  • Managing and improving state-level 4G/5G network performance, ensuring key radio KPIs are achieved
  • Owning network performance analysis, including identification of worst-performing cells and implementation of optimisation solutions
  • Leading large-scale optimisation initiatives, trials and feature/parameter testing
  • Supporting special event capacity planning, performance monitoring and field testing
  • Contributing as an SME to national standardisation and optimisation forums
  • Supporting service management teams with customer complaint investigations, including in‑building and repeater solutions
  • Planning, integrating and optimising new sites, sector adds and technology overlays
  • Providing technical input into business and leadership presentations
  • Mentoring and supporting team members with advanced technical guidance
  • Working closely with vendors, deployment partners and internal stakeholders to deliver optimal network outcomes
  • Ensuring compliance with WHS, regulatory and safety requirements, including ACMA and MCF standards

 

What makes you perfect for the role?

  • A tertiary qualification in Telecommunications Engineering (or a related discipline), or equivalent experience
  • Extensive experience in Radio Access Network (RAN) engineering within the mobile telecommunications industry
  • Ability to work ‘on call’ when required
  • Current full drivers license
  • Strong expertise across LTE, 5G, FWA and IoT mobile technologies
  • Deep understanding of network performance metrics, counters and KPIs
  • Hands‑on experience with Ericsson, Nokia and Huawei RAN equipment
  • Ericsson, Nokia and Huawei RAN configuration management
  • Proficiency with drive test and optimisation tools such as TEMS, NEMO, ActixOne, Atoll, NetAct and OSS platforms
  • Experience with in‑building coverage solutions
  • Knowledge of Australian telecommunications regulations and compliance requirements (ACMA, MCF, EME)
  • Proficiency in data analytics and automation is preferred
  • Ability to work autonomously, manage competing priorities and deliver results under pressure
