As a Technical Specialist - Design, you will play a pivotal role in influencing the Optus Access IP Network by delivering innovative IP and Carrier Ethernet solutions that enable connectivity across metro environments. This position combines strategic design with hands on technical expertise to deliver end to end solution that optimise performance, support future growth and maintain Optus’s position.
What You’ll Do
- Lead the end-to-end design, evaluation, and integration of Access platforms into the Optus network, acting as a subject matter expert in the Access IP domain
- Translate product and capacity requirements into detail technical scoping documents and produce high quality engineering design documentation.
- Develop access network architecture, perform detail design, lab testing and oversee implementation into production environment.
- Maintain and update existing Access IP Infrastructure to meet evolving specifications, performance targets and compliance requirements.
- Define and document Access IP design processes, standards and best practices to ensure consistency and quality.
- Act as a technical interface with internal teams and vendors and ensuring strategic alignment
- Deliver technical training, provide strategic recommendations and offer tier 3 assistance, and participate in on-call rotations.
- Stay informed with current emerging technologies, deliver technical reviews and proposals, and apply design updates to enhance performance and future readiness.
What makes you perfect for the role?
- Expertise in advanced routing, switching, IP and Carrier Ethernet architecture, with hands-on experience across Cisco, Nokia, Juniper platforms.
- Skilled in automation frameworks, scripting (Python), and tools like NSO and Ansible to optimise design and operations.
- Strong knowledge of cyber security standards and platform lifecycle governance for Access networks in regulated environments.
- Proven ability to engage cross-functional teams and deliver technical training to diverse audiences.
- Monitors emerging technologies, conducts technical reviews, and translates complex concepts into clear, actionable insights.
- Ability to produce detail design documentation, troubleshoot complex faults (Tier 3) and communicate clearly to diverse audiences
