The Test Engineer will play a key role in planning, designing, executing, and reporting on tests across various project phases, primarily within the Data Office. This includes producing critical test deliverables such as the Test Strategy and Test Objective Matrix, preparing test cases and scripts, maintaining the test schedule, and sharing results. The role involves escalating risks related to schedule or scope to the Test Manager, with direct reporting to the Portfolio Test Manager responsible for overseeing all testing projects within the Data Office.

 

Your day in the life as a Test Engineer

  • Design, develop, and maintain a scalable test automation framework tailored for ETL pipelines in cloud data warehouse environments, to be used across various tribes and squads within the Data Office.

  • Perform comprehensive testing of cloud-based data warehouses, such as Azure Databricks and Google BigQuery, to validate data integrity, consistency, and accuracy.

  • Develop and execute test plans for ETL processes, ensuring that data transformations and migrations meet business requirements and quality standards.

  • Execute both automated and manual tests, document results, report issues, and track defects through to resolution.

  • Collaborate closely with data engineers, solution architects, developers, and business analysts to understand requirements and design effective test cases.

  • Continuously evaluate and enhance test processes, tools, and frameworks to improve efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Assess and optimise the performance of data pipelines and data warehouse systems to ensure they meet performance benchmarks.

  • Prepare test strategies, plans, objectives, test cases, schedules, daily execution summaries, and final test summary reports.

 

Experience required

  • Skilled in test automation tools and frameworks, with hands-on experience in Python.

  • 3-5 Years experience in similar Test Engineering role

  • Experienced in working with cloud data warehouses, including Azure Databricks, Google BigQuery, AWS Redshift, or Snowflake.

  • Strong understanding of ETL processes and data integration principles.

  • Proficient in SQL for data validation, manipulation, and experienced with Python for advanced scripting.

  • Familiar with CI/CD tools like Jenkins, GitHub, and Atlassian Stash.

  • Knowledgeable in reporting tools such as Tableau or Power BI.

  • Well-versed in Agile methodology.

  • Experience in the telecommunications industry is a plus.

  • Possesses strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication skills, capable of effectively collaborating with cross-functional teams.

  • Detail-oriented and committed to delivering high-quality outcomes.
