Date: 1 Jun 2026
Location: Sydney, Australia
Company: Singtel Group
Optus is an Australian telecommunications company, delivering more than 11 million services to our customers every day across mobile, broadband and digital solutions.
We're looking for a skilled and adaptable Network Engineer (Technical Facilities and Non-Exchange) ISP to join our Network Operations team based in Sydney. In this hands-on field role, you'll be at the frontline of keeping Australia's network running — delivering, maintaining and restoring critical infrastructure across Exchanges, CEVs, FANs, Hubs and mobile sites. You'll be part of a collaborative, high-performing team where your technical expertise services millions of customers every day.
What You'll Do
- Perform Service Delivery (build and commissioning) and Service Assurance/Restoration activities across Switching, Transmission and Enhanced Service platforms for both mobile and fixed services.
- Provide rapid response to critical incidents, including 24/7 shift work and on-call arrangements to maintain network integrity and meet SLA targets.
- Carry out routine, preventative and corrective maintenance across major technical facilities including Exchanges, CEVs, FANs and Hubs.
- Deliver Level 1 technical power and cooling support — monitoring and maintaining BMS, UPS, DC plant, HVAC, emergency generators and fire systems.
- Monitor, audit and ensure compliance of Exchange and Datacentre operations, supervising vendors and contractors to uphold Optus standards.
- Mentor and coach new field engineers and cadets, contributing to continuous improvement of standard procedures and team capability.
What makes you perfect for the role?
- Current Drivers license and car
- A technical qualification (Cert III, Cert IV, diploma or degree) in Telecommunications Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
- Experience in fixed transmission networks with strong knowledge of network design and technologies.
- Broad knowledge of critical infrastructure including DC systems, rectifiers, batteries, UPS, PDUs, HVAC, fire panels and emergency generators.
- Sound understanding of transmission and digital systems, switching, HFC, and mobile technologies including 5G/edge.
- Experience managing or working within Exchanges and Datacentres, with the ability to troubleshoot complex, non-standard problems under pressure.
- A collaborative team player with the ability to work across departments, contribute to MOPs, rack layout diagrams and floor plans, and adapt in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.
