Reporting to the Senior Director, Sales of Optus Wholesale & Satellite, the Sales Engineers role is to provide technical advice and expertise to Account Managers and Service Providers/Carriers to assist in the development of long-term profitable business relationships.

The Sales Engineer is responsible for the customer Technical Relationship, feeding back to the sales arena technical developments and needs within Service Providers/Carriers networks and at times overseeing the success of the services delivered through the design and implementation stages.

In Optus Wholesale the Sales Engineer is the key technical expert working with customer technical and operational management, providing solutions, escalations, and technical advice to customers.


The day to day involves

  • Serve as the primary technical contact for Service Providers/Carriers, ensuring ongoing support and satisfaction.

  • Maintain a deep understanding of customer systems and market competition to provide strategic solutions.

  • Stay updated on telecommunications industry trends and enhance the knowledge of the Sales team.

  • Work with product managers to interpret customer needs for future product enhancements.

  • Provide technical guidance to customers regarding software and hardware updates.

  • Collaborate closely with Operations, Engineering, and Product Management to support system design and sales.

  • Design and configure standard products and services for effective network integration.

  • Develop and deliver technical presentations to both customers and internal stakeholders.

  • Communicate customer requirements back to Optus and coordinate resources to deliver tailored solutions.

  • Drive process improvement through automation and contribute to annual business goals.

  • Exceptional interpersonal, motivational, and persuasive communication skills.

  • Extensive telecommunications industry experience and deep technological knowledge.

  • Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and active listening skills.

  • Highly analytical with strong problem-solving capabilities.

  • Adaptability to thrive in a dynamic and evolving market environment.

  • Proactive in building and maintaining professional relationships at all levels within customer organisations and Optus.
