The Senior Cloud Engineer role at Optus offers an outstanding opportunity to design, develop, and build a robust, scalable, and efficient cloud infrastructure. This role involves leading collaborative efforts to improve and operate our cloud-based platforms, using Cloud services to increase capabilities and ensure security, reliability, and cost-effectiveness. The role will have a strong focus on Cyber hardening and operational resilience in Cloud and will provide Level 3 expert support to cloud operational teams.
What You’ll Do | Your day to day will consist of

Establishing and accomplishing the strategic vision for Cloud Infrastructure and Operations with a primary focus on hyperscaler cloud platforms – particularly Microsoft Azure (MS Azure) and Google Cloud (GCP).

Deploying and uplifting Cloud Landing Zones to comply with mandated security frameworks and architectural guidelines.

Developing and putting into action platform strategies that support secure, scalable, and automated adoption of cloud services with a strong focus on Cyber hardening and operations resilience.

Leading the development and implementation of Cloud Center of Excellence (CCOE) Services as a product. Providing actionable insights to minimise downtime and optimise asset utilisation and improvement opportunities.

Defining the CCOE’s objectives, best engineering practices, policies, and skill proficiencies.

Ensuring alignment with strategic objectives of key stakeholders such as Architecture and Cyber.

Leading the build and development of scalable and robust platform infrastructure to meet diverse engineering team needs.

Leading the automation of platform management and deployment processes to improve efficiency, reduce manual intervention and improve cyber and operational resiliency.

Implementing comprehensive monitoring solutions and optimising platform performance to ensure reliability and high performance.
What You Bring | What makes you perfect for the role?

Tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics and Mathematics, Information Systems and/or equivalent formal training or work experience.

Demonstrated experience working hands-on in an enterprise MS Azure and GCP cloud environment, with a strong focus on Cyber hardening and Operational resilience.

Experienced in acting as Level 3 expert support to cloud operational teams.

In-depth understanding of security guidelines and compliance requirements for cloud platforms.

Extensive experience in crafting and implementing complex cloud networking requirements.

Advanced skill in scripting languages (e.g., Python, Shell) to automate platform management and deployment.

Proficiency in containerization technologies (Docker) and orchestration tools (Kubernetes), and cloud native container services.

Strong background in implementing and applying monitoring tools and techniques to ensure platform reliability and performance.

Excellent ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and effectively communicate technical concepts. Demonstrated ability to balance trade-offs between speed and governance for optimum business outcomes.
