The Senior Corporate Counsel (SCC) sits within Optus’ Enterprise and Business Legal team, providing legal support to the Optus Wholesale and Satellite businesses (along with two other members of the team).  Operating in a technically complex, dynamic and heavily regulated industry, the SCC will be a trusted advisor and partner to the business, providing legal advice to facilitate commercial decision making and ensuring that all operations in these areas are legally compliant.  

Open to candidates in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. 

 

What You’ll Do 

  • Provide expert legal advice to the Optus Wholesale & Optus Satellite business, including identifying potential legal and regulatory issues with new products and business models.
  • Work on matters ranging from non-complex to complex, both where Optus is the buyer and the seller of services, and negotiate with sophisticated and well-resourced customers and vendors.
  • Be the legal lead on significant projects, ensuring that all aspects of legal support for the project are provided.
  • Provide strategic legal guidance to senior leaders and briefing those leaders as part of internal approval processes.
  • Monitor legal developments that may impact the business, maintain and improve standard agreements and deliver legal compliance training to the business.
  • Legal approval of external communications in these business areas.

 

What makes you perfect for the role?

  • Admitted as a solicitor in one or more States in Australia (or equivalent qualifications from overseas).
  • 6+ years of post-admission legal experience.
  • Expertise in competition and consumer law, privacy and intellectual property law.
  • Proven commercial law experience, including negotiating customer and vendor agreements, particularly in a technology context.
  • Excellent drafting, negotiation, and project management skills.
  • Ability to provide commercially focused legal support and liaise with senior executives.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proactive, self-motivating, and committed to delivering strong outcomes.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and influence collaborators at all levels.
