The Senior Engineer, Wintel and Virtualization is responsible for the Operations of Wintel infrastructure in our virtualized environment in the on premises Private Cloud. The successful candidates will help maintain applications in the Wintel environment in a high state of operational readiness, and in compliance with the necessary security measures. He/she will help ensure that patching is carried out according to the defined schedule, and will work closely with the Change Management and the application teams to ensure that patches are applied on time. The candidate will help provide L1 and L2 support to applications for Windows OS related issues, including any Windows and VMware related incidents, as well has help coordinate any hardware RMA activity. He/she will be required to handle the change management process for making changes to the environment, including monthly patching exercises, DR exercises, certificate replacement, VA remediation and other adhoc change activities initiated by other business groups, and may be required to present at release council meetings to secure change timings.
The candidate will be required to work with principle vendors for resolution of Windows, VMware and Compute hardware or software related issues.
The candidate will also help in the process of automating the maintenance of the infrastructure through scripting. He/she will work on process and monitoring improvements to ensure that the infrastructure is always up. He/she will also take part in capacity planning exercises and participate in management reporting. He/she may also assist in Azure Cloud related OS issues.
Make an Impact by:
- Operations and maintenance of Wintel infrastructure in on premises datacentres, VMware or Azure stack solutions. Support Wintel related service requests and changes requested by application or infrstructure teams.
- Playing a major role in the operations of the Wintel infrastructure, including maintaining Wintel security tools, automation tools, outsourced vendor management if any
- Making sure that all Wintel infrastructure patches are up to date and infrastructure is current and resilient.
- Work with Change Management to propose and implement changes, especially for Data Center migration patching for ongoing quality, efficiency and resiliency requirements
- Ensure that operational SLA’s are met, and crafting meaningful reports and metrics to track progress of current infrastructure, including capacity planning and operational improvements
- Ensure operations are in compliance with security and best practices adopted by the industry
- Document and communicate processes and standards
- Ensure solution compliance and integration with enterprise architecture and Infosec policy for Infrastructure and Security systems by reviewing and advising on new and existing Information Technology projects
- Providing advice and guidance to management during planning phases to ensure that non-functional requirements are included in the overall specifications
Skills for Success
- Degree in computer science/ Information Technology, Industry certification
- 3-5 years of experience working and familiar with corporate infra operations in Wintel. Familiar with security hygiene and best practices, compute/storage operations. Able to articulate well on proposed design to stakeholder.
- Experience in Windows Server administration and configuration, including IIS, .NET, Active Directory, Certificate renewal, SCCM, GPO policies. Microsoft certification is essential
- Experience in VMware environment and patching. VMware certification is a plus.
- Experience in bash, Powershell and other scripting for operational efficiency
- Experience in HP Synergy and Dell MX and PowerEdge compute operations and patching
- Experience in performing VM migration on databases like Oracle, MySQL, and MSSQL would be advantageous.
- Familiar with complex or large sized network infrastructure development projects.
- Experience in dealing with vendors on technology and services and working with them to resolve incidents
- Familiar with Hardware RMA processes
- Proficient in ServiceNow
- Able to work in a 12-hour shift environment
