Date: 19 Aug 2026
Location: Sydney, Australia
Company: Singtel Group
Every day, millions of Australians rely on the Optus network to connect, work and stay in touch. Behind that experience is a team making critical decisions to keep customers, businesses and communities connected. Today, Optus is focused on strengthening the fundamentals by simplifying how we work, lifting standards, and building a more reliable, resilient customer experience.
We're looking for a Technical Specialist, NaaS Exposure (API Gateway Platform Owner) to lead the strategy, governance, and ongoing evolution of Optus' API Gateway platform within the Network as a Service (NaaS) domain. This is a key role responsible for ensuring the platform remains secure, scalable, and operationally resilient while driving adoption and supporting network modernisation initiatives. You'll work across network, security, operations, and product teams to define standards, govern integrations, manage the platform roadmap, and deliver a seamless API ecosystem that enables innovation across internal and external consumers.
Our people are at the heart of what we do. Through accountability, integrity, and collaboration, we deliver reliable services to millions of Australians. Join us to take on meaningful challenges, build strong relationships, and make a real impact.
Your day to day
- Own and evolve the API Gateway platform strategy, roadmap, governance framework, and service portfolio, ensuring alignment with NaaS objectives, network transformation initiatives, and business requirements.
- Lead platform operations and lifecycle management, including capacity planning, licensing, observability, security governance, compliance, patching, upgrades, resiliency, and end-of-life risk mitigation.
- Establish and maintain platform standards, documentation, integration patterns, and service governance processes, including API design, interface contracts, access management, onboarding/offboarding, and connectivity requirements.
- Drive stakeholder, vendor, and operational engagement by managing change activities, support contracts, procurement assessments, migration planning, incident support, and collaboration across the broader NaaS Exposure portfolio.
What makes you right for the role?
- Demonstrated experience in platform or product ownership within telecommunications, networking, cloud, or infrastructure environments, supported by a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Telecommunications Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline, with strong knowledge of API gateway technologies, API lifecycle management, integration patterns, and enterprise service delivery.
- Strong technical expertise in platform security, compliance, and risk management, including identity and access controls, vulnerability management, certificate lifecycle administration, cyber governance, and patching frameworks.
- Proven ability to develop and execute platform roadmaps, lifecycle strategies, observability models, and change management processes to support secure, resilient, and scalable services in complex enterprise environments.
- Strong stakeholder, vendor, and commercial management skills, with experience influencing cross-functional teams, managing procurement and contracts, and leveraging automation and enterprise platforms such as Ansible, RHEL, VMware, Kubernetes, OpenShift, and related technologies.
By empowering one another, backing bold ideas and helping you own your impact, we’ve designed a workplace that gives you the freedom to grow, the support to thrive, and the chance to be part of something bigger – a team that’s shaping a more connected, inclusive and inspired Australia.
The good stuff
- Competitive remuneration, plus $80 monthly credit, 25% off Optus products and exclusive shopping discounts with our retail partners — making everyday life a little more affordable. Genuine Flexibility - work three days in the office, two days from wherever works best for you.
- An office campus that has it all - cafes chill out zones, GP, post office, gym and on-site childcare centre. It’s designed for real life.
- Great leave policies, including additional 'Connected’ days to focus on culture, family, health, community, or whatever matters most to you.
- Inclusive, carer-neutral paid Parental Leave of up to 16 weeks, because family comes first.
- Build meaningful connections through employee-led networks and diversity initiatives including Culture Connect, Elevate Women, Disability Network and Express Yourself (LGBTQIA+).
- Your wellbeing matters, so we offer with free counselling and support services, available 24/7 in-person, by phone, SMS, or video.
- A free Optus bus from Macquarie University Metro Station (every 6-8 minutes); morning and afternoon. Or heaps of onsite parking. Plus, end of trip facilities with lockers, showers, irons and hair dryers.
Not every box ticked? Apply anyway. We believe the right mindset matter more than a perfect CV. We’ll back you to grow from there.
