The Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for a Transmission Microwave Planning Lead to provide technical leadership across the strategic planning and design of Optus’ microwave transport network.

This role is accountable for defining long‑term microwave capacity strategy, forecasting demand, and shaping AOP and 5‑year investment plans. You’ll work closely with Access, IP Transport, Deployment and Operations teams to ensure the network continues to meet performance, availability and resilience targets while supporting ongoing 5G rollout.

 

 

What You’ll Do

• Lead long‑term microwave capacity planning, forecasting and investment strategy
• Translate demand forecasts into AOP inputs and multi‑year upgrade plans
• Act as the technical authority for high‑capacity microwave design and standards
• Identify congestion, availability risks and define upgrade pathways
• Represent Microwave Planning in cross‑domain programs including 5G and regional resiliency initiatives
• Review and endorse complex microwave link designs
• Drive automation and data‑driven improvements to capacity planning and performance monitoring
• Collaborate with engineering, deployment, operations and vendors to deliver network initiatives

 

 

What You’ll Bring

• Tertiary qualification in Electrical or Telecommunications Engineering
• 7+ years’ experience in telecommunications with strong microwave planning and design expertise
• Deep knowledge of microwave transmission technologies and capacity forecasting
• Solid understanding of mobile backhaul and IP transport architectures
• Experience with microwave planning tools (e.g. Pathloss, Mentum, Atoll)
• Strong stakeholder engagement, communication and technical leadership skills
