The National Health & Safety team are responsible for the design, development, and implementation of Health, and Safety management systems and training aligned with Comcare requirements and ensure compliance with all relevant legislation in all areas of WHS.
 

The Manager, Compliance and Training will be responsible for assisting with Comcare regulatory intervention across all Optus business units to ensure compliance is handled effectively across the organisation. This will include maintaining appropriate governance, control, supervising and reporting arrangements including any training uplift requirements. One of the key outcomes is to ensure that Optus meets its due diligence obligations and duty of care requirements under the Comcare WHS Act and Regulations. These responsibilities include responding to the regulatory requests from Comcare and being a single point of contact for any WHS matters related to Comcare such a notifiable incident and reporting, and are not limited to the investigation of any breaches of procedural or contractual agreements.


Your day in the life at Optus
 

  • Review changes in the regulatory requirements and advise the relevant managers of these changes.
  • Updating WHS compliance training to ensure compliance to WHS legislative requirements.
  • Handling online contractor prequalification and insurance requirements and maintaining up-to-date accreditation for Optus as a subcontractor to other government and non-government entities.
  • Identifying gaps as a result of any regulatory reviews or changes. These gaps are then communicated to the Senior WHS policy and compliance Manager so that the risk is understood, and plans may be made to address the risk.
  • collaborating closely with Comcare senior inspectors, Directors and Executives to discuss and resolve any compliance and audit matters.
  • work closely with Optus General Counsel and Legal team to review and Non Compliance matters and draft appropriate response for review by the Senior Director WHS.
  • Establishes relationships quickly with business partners across all business areas including acting as a delegate for Senior Director WHS at Comcare and other Regulator meetings.


Your skills to pay the bills,
 

  • Tertiary qualifications in WHS/Risk with shown experience in WHS compliance role in sophisticated multi-site, multi-function business operations.
  • Formal WHS or similar qualifications.
  • Solid understanding of state and federal Health & Safety regulatory Framework/ Comcare Audit tool and Comcare regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to analyze and address problems relating to auditing and related fields.
  • Outstanding ability to empower, persuade, and influence others.
  • Strong influencing skills across all levels of the organisation and external collaborators.
  • Sophisticated verbal and written communication skills and ability to adapt communication styles to specific audiences.
  • Confirmed facilitation and influencing skills, with strong reporting and Strong IT literacy (MS Office).
  • The ability to persuade and convince others by emphasising benefits of initiatives, remaining driven and advocating point of view that enables the achievement of common goals and maintains relationships.
