Subject Matter Expert - Network Exchanges

As the Subject Matter Expert – Exchanges, you will provide specialist, on‑site support across state-based Exchanges and Data Centres, ensuring these critical facilities operate to the highest standards. You’ll oversee day‑to‑day operational compliance, vendor activity, and quality outcomes to maintain a pristine and safe environment. This role requires strong technical capability across Optus technologies and the ability to guide, monitor and support a team of 10.

You will work closely with Project Managers, Exchange Managers and vendors to ensure installations, maintenance, and commissioning activities meet WHS, quality and technical standards. Accountability includes managing kick‑off activities, ensuring timely delivery of approved parts, escalating non‑compliances, and auditing work upon completion. Maintaining up‑to‑date knowledge of emerging technologies and safeguarding Optus intellectual property forms an important part of this position’s ongoing responsibilities.

What You will Do

• Proven experience overseeing Exchange or Data Centre operations, ensuring compliance with WHS, technical and quality standards.
• Strong stakeholder management skills, particularly in coordinating with Project Managers, Exchange Managers and contractors.
• Ability to monitor, direct and quality assure vendor and staff activity, including installations, commissioning and maintenance.
• High attention to detail with a commitment to maintaining facility cleanliness, safety, and operational excellence.
• Competence in conducting formal kick off meetings (e.g., via Qtrac or similar scheduling tools).
• Technical proficiency across core Optus technologies, with the capability to support and transfer knowledge to teams and vendors.
• Experience auditing completed works, identifying non-conformances, and escalating issues appropriately.

• Support the Exchange Manager in achieving Delivery and Assurance KPIs, including maintaining storage compliance and escalating breaches.
• Build strong working relationships with Platform Owners, Project Managers and internal teams to enable smooth project delivery.
• Attend multiple Exchange sites to initiate and oversee works, ensuring kick‑off activities follow required processes.
• Ensure all scheduled routines and assurance tasks are completed on time to maintain network integrity and service quality.
• Conduct site audits and complete Helix ACS1A sign‑offs, ensuring all activities meet compliance and quality standards.
• Uphold the quality management framework by engaging with relevant teams and escalating any non‑conformances.
• Maintain and continually develop technical skills while preserving Optus intellectual property and expertise.
