Wintel System Engineer

Responsibilities:

  • Design, deploy, and manage the hyperconverged infrastructure, leveraging technologies from VMWare and Nutanix.
  • Upgrading hyperconverged infrastructure, including planning, testing, and executing upgrade processes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and design solutions that meet business needs.
  • Assess compatibility, perform pre-upgrade checks, and troubleshoot any issues that may arise during the upgrade process.
  • Configure and optimise the hyperconverged environment to ensure optimal performance, availability, and scalability.
  • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement necessary fixes or enhancements.
  • Conduct regular system health checks and capacity planning to anticipate and address potential bottlenecks.
  • Implement security best practices and ensure compliance with industry standards.
  • Collaborate with vendors and technical support teams to resolve complex technical issues.
  • Document system configurations, processes, and procedures for knowledge sharing and future reference.
  • Stay up to date with the latest industry trends and emerging technologies related to hyperconverged infrastructure.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members as needed.
  • Resolve all incidents within SLA

 

Requirements:

  • Minimum three (3) years of IT experience, with two (2) years of server and virtualisation platform operations management experience; and/or two (2) years of backup infrastructure operations experience.
  • Patch management experience for Windows systems.
  • Proven experience in upgrading hyperconverged infrastructure, including planning, testing, and executing upgrade processes.
  • Familiarity with the upgrade process of VMWare and Nutanix technologies, ensuring minimal downtime and disruption to business operations.
  • Knowledge of best practices for conducting upgrades in a production environment including rollback procedures and contingency plans.
  • Experience in working with vendor documentation, release notes, and technical support to ensure successful upgrades and resolution of any upgrade-related issues.
  • Preferably possess patch management experience for Linux/Unix systems and patch automation experience.
  • Preferably possess certifications such as Nutanix Platform Professional, VMWare Certified Professional, Red Hat Certified System Administrator or equivalent.
  • Preferably have experience in an enterprise organisation, managing more than 1000 systems.
  • Preferably equipped with relevant training on the proposed products.
