Senior DevOps Engineer
Date: 17 Jul 2026
Location: Macquarie Park, Australia
Company: Singtel Group
Optus Critical Network Services (CNS) keeps the backbone of Australia's network running. We manage critical infrastructure that serves millions of consumers and enterprise customers — spanning DNS, DHCP, RADIUS, ACS, and a 40+ application estate hosted across a hybrid on-premises and cloud environment.
We are seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer with a strong telco pedigree to join our team. This is not a cloud-only role. You will work across bare-metal servers, virtualised environments (Proxmox/KVM, VMware), containerised platforms, and cloud environments — driving the modernisation of legacy ISP infrastructure into highly available, automated, and observable platforms.
This role suits someone who can operate at the intersection of platform architecture and hands-on engineering — equally comfortable presenting a solution design to an Architecture Review Board and standing up a Kubernetes cluster from scratch. You will bring an automation-first mindset and the depth to navigate complex, interconnected systems where stability is non-negotiable.
You will work closely with network engineers, platform architects, InfoSec, and operations teams to ensure our systems are stable, secure, scalable, and deployable with confidence.
What you'll do
- Design, build, and maintain scalable hybrid infrastructure spanning on-premises virtualisation platforms (Proxmox/KVM, VMware) and cloud environments.
- Design, build, and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitLab CI, Ansible, or equivalent tooling to automate build, test, and deployment processes.
- Manage and enhance ISP core network service platforms including RADIUS, DHCP, DNS, ACS/TR-069, TACACS+, NTP, and provisioning/activation systems.
- Monitor system performance, availability, reliability, and security using observability tooling — Grafana, Prometheus, VictoriaMetrics, ELK, Dynatrace, or similar.
- Embed DevSecOps practices across the software and infrastructure delivery lifecycle — secrets management (Vault), image scanning, least-privilege IAM, and network segmentation.Optimise and administer PostgreSQL, MySQL/Percona, and MongoDB databases in production environments.Provide Tier-3 (T3) escalation support for critical platform incidents.
What makes you perfect for the role?
- 6–8 years of hands-on platform engineering, cloud infrastructure, or software engineering experience — with a minimum of 2 years in a telco, ISP, or carrier-grade environment.
- Strong hands-on experience with Proxmox VE/KVM (preferred) or VMware vSphere/ESXi — deployment, scaling, RBAC, networking, storage, and upgrades.
- Strong experience with CI/CD tooling — GitLab CI, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or Azure DevOps.
- Hands-on experience with Terraform and/or Ansible for infrastructure provisioning and configuration management. Strong scripting capability in Python and/or Bash — automation-first mindset.
- Strong knowledge of RADIUS, DHCP, DNS, TACACS+, NTP, ACS/TR-069, and related ISP protocols.Experience with monitoring, logging, alerting, and observability tooling — Grafana, Prometheus, Loki, ELK, VictoriaMetrics, or equivalent.Production-grade experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL/Percona, and MongoDB.
Desirable:
- Kubernetes (K3s, Rancher, EKS, or equivalent) in production including air-gapped environments.
- Experience with OpenShift, OpenStack, or equivalent private cloud platforms.
- Go programming experience — highly regarded for tooling and automation.
- Experience with NBN integration, BNG, provisioning APIs, ONT/GW activation flows, Anycast/BGP routing, Cisco/Nokia equipment.
- Experience operating geographically distributed, multi-site infrastructure.
