The Senior Technical Specialist is responsible for planning, designing, and ensuring the performance and reliability of critical mobile core and network platforms, while managing capacity, lifecycle, vendors, and future roadmaps to support business growth. They lead technical aspects of projects, including design, documentation, and implementation for network and regulatory initiatives. Operating with limited supervision, they manage small to medium projects independently and seek guidance when needed.
Your day to day will consist of
- Plan, design and manage capacity, performance and service assurance for critical network platforms to meet engineering and business targets.
- Lead technical delivery for network projects, regulatory initiatives and complex BAU changes, including design, governance and deployment.
- Manage budgets, AOP activities, capital submissions, procurement and reporting against financial and delivery targets.
- Oversee infrastructure build programs, including contractor coordination, asset management and network equipment deployment.
- Own platform lifecycle and roadmap activities, including EOL planning, inventory management, risk mitigation and technology evaluations.
- Provide technical leadership, vendor governance and performance monitoring, while mentoring teams and supporting critical changes and issue resolution.
What makes you perfect for the role
- Minimum 10 years’ telecommunications experience with deep technical knowledge across Mobile Core, Intelligent Network, Online Charging Systems, mediation, IVR, Network Policy, DPI/PCEF/PCRF and related platforms.
- Strong network planning, design, implementation and production deployment capability in large-scale, highly available network environments.
- Proven ability to prepare accurate engineering documentation, MOPs, capacity models, platform configurations, architecture inputs and executive-level technical communications.
- Experience managing AOP/capital expenditure plans, procurement activities, vendor governance, contractor delivery and lifecycle/obsolescence programs.
- Working knowledge of network virtualised environments, 3GPP architectures and interfaces, IMS nodes, SIP/SDP/RTP/RTCP/Diameter/TCP/IP/H.248 protocols, signalling networks and charging.
- Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills across technology vendors, operations, architecture, finance, procurement, product and regulatory teams.
- Ability to operate independently under limited supervision, prioritise competing projects, solve complex technical/business problems and maintain a customer-focused, error-free delivery mindset.
